IOL removal

This is something I should discuss with my doctor, I know. But, i'm curious now, and won't see my doctor for a few months. I have long-standing macular edema that may be related to iris irritation from my IOL. No ophthalmologist wants to remove it because it has been in place 5 yrs.and a lot of fibrosis in the capsule. Question: if the capsule was damaged by IOL removal, could an implanted contact lens replace the IOL?

Sorry, but I was asking would it be POSSIBLE to implant an ICL to refract my vision IN THE EVENT THAT removal of the IOL destroyed the capsule that holds it. Alternatively, if the capsule is destroyed, would a sulcus fixated IOL be my other option and could this also cause irritation that would agravate the CME. ...I guess I'm trying to understand why I've been warned against IOL removal if it might help my 4 year long CME resolve. Again, I have fibrosis and elshnig pearls encapsulating the IOL.

Yes, but it's not an implanted contact lens, it's an intraocular lens. Implantable contact lenses or ICLs are used in people who have never had their natural lens removed. Best wishes to you!
