Is my friend going blind?

My friend has astigmatism which he has glasses for, but for quite a while now he has been unable to focus on fine detail work (he could previously), he says peoples faces are blurry and he has limited peripheral vision. Also, his eyes get tired if he tries to focus on things for too long, eg computer screen etc. He has had his eyes checked twice by an eye specialist who could not find anything to explain his problems.

Does anyone on here have any suggestions so if he goes back to an eye specialist he could say "well could it be a, b or c? I am getting worried about him as he is quite stubborn and relies so much on his eyes for so much that he does, losing his eyesight would be like killing him. He says it is getting worse and it is his belief that in 10 years he will be almost totally blind.

I would love to shine a ray of light on this for him as after the 2nd specialist visit he seems to have just given up :(

Have him talk to his regular doctor and check for the possibility of mysthenia gravis - it's first symptoms can be double vision and inability to focus that gets worse with extended usage - it's a rare possibility, but worth checking (I know about this because it happened with my Father)

Have him go see a glaucoma specialist and also get a peripheral vision check or visual field test.  An ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma could check for optic nerve problems as well as retinal issues and simpler things such as dry eyes.  You can find one on the patient search engine on the www.aao.org website.
