Just diagnosed with Diplopia

Lets get the basics out of the way.  51 yo female. 2.5 years dx DM II  Out of nowhere, I got double vision.  After 3 days of rest, went back to the doctor and was seen by ophthalmologist who diagnosed the diplopia. From what I have read in my file, I have intermittent exotropia.  Doctor released me with no further follow up or treatment until I meet with neuro-ophthalmologist in 30 days. What do I do in the meantime??  I am afraid to drive because of the double vision.  I can use my computer at home if I bring the font up very large and patch the 'bad' eye, but after 10 minutes or so, I get a migraine headache!! But at work, I use a program that not only uses small fonts, it is also lacking in contrast, which makes it difficult on my best days.  If I don't patch, one eye sees the screen and the other eye is looking at the wall!!  I don't know what to do between now and then.  Please give me some advice..

They moved my appointment until this Thursday... so that's a bonus!!! I hope they can help me then.  My regular doctor gave me another week off work, so that will help, too.

Phone the ophthalmologist who diagnosed and referred you!  I'm surprised the office sent you away without advice.
