Lots of computer use make eyes weak

I've been using computers for 16 years for a long time each day and never really had a problem with eyes aching. 2 years ago I became a web designer and I started getting eye aches every day I use the computer. I'm wondering if all of the computer use I did in the past without taking breaks and stuff made my eyes weak and caused convergence insufficiency or something like that. I know this is a muscle issue because the muscles in my eyes ache like the would if you exercised your legs after being dormant for 6 months. It's an aching right in my eyeballs. Any ideas?

Hello I just found this post after searching for info on being able to wear contacts if someone has a slight weak eye.. Just last month I went to the eye doctor for my yearly eye exam and I asked my doc why my left eye is always aching and twitching and he said to keep your eyes lubricated with fake tears and to take 20 minute breaks from the computer screen also he suggested I drink tonic water for the twitching, he says its just a remedy but its worth a chance. You could buy eye vitamins at walmart and look up some techniques on massaging your temples to try to relieve any stress you might have around the eyes, also get good sleep. I'm an Ex web designer and I know it can be hard to get away from the computer long enough to make a difference. good luck

Hi Dr. Hagan,

I went and saw an opthalmologist and he said there is nothing wrong with my eyes. However this doesn't explain why I have eye aching every day at work from using the computer. I believe it has something to do with my eye muscles and them tensing up from using them. Is there any way to stretch them out so they aren't tight and ache like this? Since there isn't anything anatomically wrong with my eyes I'm assuming it is a muscle issue. What's your suggestion?

Thanks

The problem is much more likely due to age, a change in your eye condition or the stresses of web design rather than the computer monitor. Start with seeing an eye MD ophthalmologist to determine eye health and possible need for glasses
