It is definitely not painful and the vast majority of of my patients don't even feel anything at all. The surgery can take from 5 or 6 minutes for lightning quick surgeons to 12-20 minutes for average surgeon.  After surgery there is often some irriation like an eyelash in the eye for a day or so but it quickly resolves.  Glasses may be needed especially for reading and sometimes for distance vision as well.  It depends on each individual eye's characteristics and especially the amount of astigmatism.

i just had it done...no pain at all.  i also work for the surgeon who did it. glasses...everyone is different.  chances are good you will need readers unless you did the multifocal lens implant or mono vision.  i am still post op and i just had a temporary pair of glasses made so i can see to drive.  good luck!
