Painful foreign body sensation in one eye

Hello everyone,

I had PRK in September (I'm a 23 year old female). I had the typical recovery - painful first few days, better vision each day and was 20/20 or better from about the second week on.

One big issue I've had since about the second week post-op is a localized discomfort in my upper left eye, the white part under the eyelid. It feels like a constant eyelash or sand in my eye and nothing makes it go away.

I've seen a couple of experts, with no clear diagnosis. One though it might be mild GPC, but grade 1 GPC should not be this painful. I saw an allergist who found I was only allergic to dust mites and the drops I was given have not helped at all. I've tried every drop, vitamin supplement and tears with no luck. The surgeon says this is likely not a result of the surgery since the pain is not near the area where the surgery was performed.

Could this be a corneal abrasion or scar? Looking at it in the mirror there is a 'squiggle' on the cornea, right where the discomfort is. And having read up on these, the diagnosis/symptoms fit. However, now having had a few different doctors look at it (with microscope, slit lamp, nothing), they say they don't see anything. Are they possibly missing something?

Has anyone else had anything like this? I just want to know that this will get better!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated...!

Thanks in advance,

FD

Thank you for the prompt response.

I'm in Canada, so after a Google search, I'll try the local contacts at www.neuroophthalmology.ca

If other members have any input on my case above, it would be much appreciated.
