Pediatric ophthalmologist

Recently I have taken my 9 month daughter for an eye exam. The doctor told me nothign was wrong although i was concerned with her right eye drifting in wards. I took her back one month because one night her eye seems alot worse. He again said he saw nothing wrong but that should would eventually need some glasses but would re-evaluate in 6 months, but refered me to a colleague who was able to find a problem.

She has far sightedness, Nearsightedness, Asigmatism and also the back of her right eye was not fully deveploped to term. the first three conditions i can find info on. Her eye not fully developing is not as easy, do you have some info as to what could happened or happening because i am beating myself up over if it was something I wasnt taking etc.

Left eye 4.5
Right eye 3.5
(her prescription)

Im told that is high!
She did not seem to be uncordinated that she couldn't see would she have just learned to deal with it because she wouldn't of known how you should see?

What kind of problems are we looking at? can it be fixed?
he is a eye doctor but someone recommended i get refered to a pediatric ophthalmologist to find a root of the problem. Is this something i should be doing?

Thank you

Dear Barenttashlee,

I would also recommend that you seek the care of a pediatric ophthalmologist.  He/she will be able to assist in answering your questions. It is difficult to assess from your history, what is not developed.  Try to take one step at a time before

Yes, see a pediatric ophthalmologist.  Everything is going to be OK. Please don't blame yourself for any of this.  After all you helped to give her life!  What a blessing that is.  She likely just needs to wear glasses and chances are that you, or her father had similar eyes to some extent, possibly.  If she just has to wear glasses and maybe some possible patching for some possible amblyopia (or lazy eye) she should do very well as long as she has a good pediatric ophthalmologist.  Everything should work out just fine.  Good luck.

Make an appt with a pediatric opthalmologist and try to relax until she sees this MD. Stay away from optometrists except to fill lens RX from Mds. A doc here will answer tomorrow.
