Severe dry eye

This has been going on for some time .I can't seem to get this under control. I've had a puntal plug placed in my left eye ( which is the worst of the two), been on Restaisis twice a day for awhile, have tried numerous dry eye drops ,which actually make them worse! I take flax oil in the morning, have used a sodium ointment at bedtime, have tried a sleep mask, and was tested for Sjrogen's Syndrome. My Opthamologist seems to think my condition is bilateral basement membrane dystropy and also wants me to go for a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea ( which is related to your eyes not completely closing when sleeping ). I take a few different presciptions, some of which I'm trying to taper, and woner if this is contrbuting to the problem?
anyone out there who can help?

I do Have a sodium ointment and today I also bought the eye drop version. They do make my eyes feel better, but I don't know if they look less red and irritated.
Thank You

It seems very severe and you have already tried most of the recommended treatments.  I would make sure the artificial tears you are using are preservative free as your eyes can develop sensitivity to preservatives in tears.  You can also use the Muro 128 or "salt ointment" multiple times during the day if necessary.  You may need to consult with an eyelid specialist to see if anything can be done surgically to improve your condition.  Good luck.
