Pupil dilation after retina surgery concerns. Will my pupil go back to normal?

I was in a car accident and had to have Regina surgery. I received a buckle during the surgery as well. After surgery I continued to take cyclogel eye drops for 5 months. I have been off the eye drops for two months now and my pupil is still enlarged. I have red that my pupil may never go back to normal size. My pupil will look dis-formed and almost shriveled up-like and seem to be shrinking at times, but always is back to this enlarged size. Could this be a sign that my pupil may go back to normal? I also do have blue eyes and was told that the dilation eye drops work extremely well on those with blue eyes , so I wonder if it will take longer for the side effects to wear off.

Off dilation eye drops for 2 months it is more likely that you have 'traumatic mydriasis" than lingering effects of dilation drops. Both trauma to the eye plus retina surgery, especially  if a scleral buckle is placed,  can lead to permanent dilation or enlargement of pupil. Discuss with your surgeon of eyes next time in. there are some drops (bromonidine) that can sometimes help this.

Dr. Hagan I’ve been reading your comments for days and I’ve been really impressed by how you help people. That being said I have a quest to my specific case regarding pupil dialaton. 4 weeks ago I had 360 degree vitrectomy and endolaser to treat a macula off detachment ( my vision is already 20/40 though probs cuz I’m an 18 y/0 male). My pupil is still dialated and I haven’t had atropine since the day of the surgery. I have light blue eyes and my doctor said he expects my pupil to return to pretty normal ( probably still slightly dialated) over the coming months. With your experience do you think that is accurate? How many of these cases are permanent? I’m about to go to college this fall, and really don’t want my eye being goofy lookin, so your advice would be appreciated. :)
Also it was just laser no freezing or buckle. And is there a decent chance that it will be normal ( it at least not cosmetically noticeable) within the next 4 months? ( that’s when I start college)

Light colored eyes stay dilated much longer,  atropine in a blue eye can keep the pupil dilated 6-8 weeks in some case. Almost all of your questions cannot be answered and vary from person to person.  You will need to wait to determine how the pupil and your vision recovers. These things are not predictable.
