Red and Inflamed Caruncle

EOO
The corner of my right eye has been red and very inflamed for a couple of months now. The part of skin that is next to the very corner of the eye (caruncle?) is the part that is the most red and inflamed and cause the white part of my eye to be blood shot as well. I went to 2 different eye doctors and they told me that it is episcliritis (common and should go away within 2 weeks) and gave me steroid eyedrops to bring down the inflamation. I think the eye drops helped a little bit but as soon as I stopped using them, the eye is red and inflamed again. It is worst in the morning when I wake up. Should I get blood work done? Could this be something serious?  My eye feels tired all the time and aches a little bit too. I have NO  bumps, or discharge, or itching or real pain. Just a tired feeling ache. Help!!! I have posted a pic.

A much better solution and safer for dry eyes occurring during sleep or on awakening is to put a long acting lubricant into the eyes at bed time such as Genteal Gel, Refresh LiquidGel, Systane PM on other product  having the word GEL. and your favorite brand of artificial tears on awakening.

Maybe there's a simple answer. Our eyes are bathed in saline. But this also means that the whole eye area is in a cloud of tiny salty droplets. This cloud is refreshed every time we blink. Anyone who wears glasses and has gently licked the inside surface of the lens to clean them will have noticed a salt taste.
If you do not notice discomfort immediately on waking, could that be because we don't blink when we are asleep. There is no salt cloud and our eyes have recovered.
Salt in solution is corrosive and our skin is less robust in later years and more easily irritated.
Maybe a simple test: Before you even get out of bed, apply an oil based product eg Vaseline around the whole eye socket area. Might need to remove and refresh several times during the day. Try for a week.

Mine is in left eye and is chronic ....it feels like fire in outer corner sector of the eye and veins they get red...my sclera looks porcelain white in the morning but as soon i take a walk in the morning especialy in artificial lighting like shopping malls my left sector of the eye start to feel gritty and inflamated...
I have experimented with alot of things visited top eye clinics ,done all exames ,done lasik for my mix asigmatism...was prescribed Systane drops and had releife with them but nothing permanent...
When this started i was not educated so was overusing visine drops, tobradex ,fml +lubricating drops they just cover the problem but didnt resolve anything...U have tried with NSID drops like diclofenac that was making my eye burn and later even worst...
At the moment the only thing that helps ans is far better than any other thing is mixture of 2% manuka eye drops that cured my dry eye sindrome and improved my redness drastically but did not cured.
It must be some sistemic autimune disease that doxtors can find in my body because my tests says that i am in perfect health.
Doctors are not almighty they know what they read from books and if our simptoms go outside the book they are clueless!
Stress is silent killer and autoimune response to that could be this chronic condition.
Conditions like this indicate that something in our body is not working well but modern medicine is not enough to treat this.

It seams that yes although I am not sure that I have episcleritis but in my case was never confirmed ?
Episcleritis is conected with autoimmune response and affect more woman than man...I heard is well treatable by homeopathy as steroid drops are risk to glaucoma...I strongly suggest stay away from steroids

This is about three years later after your post. I am a 48 year old female who developed the exact same problem a month ago. I did see an ophthalmologist last week, who said "all is quiet" and am about to see him again today. Is this something that we need to learn to live with?!

Episcleritis is very difficult to treat in some patients and requires strong steroid drops in some patients.  It tends to recur.
