Seeing Stars

Lately I have been plagued by seeing stars.  Sometimes when I gag or cough, or I have seen them while crouching down or laying back in a pool.  It's really starting to bother me.  I have brought it up to my primary and she told me not to worry and I have also had a full eye exam from an opthamologist.  There are also times where I see floaters in my vision especially while at work (lots of computer screens and fluorescent lighting).

My other main concern is that my vision changes throughout the day, I see much clearer than I do later in the day (it always happens but some days are worse than others)

A little background:  I am 24 years old have type 2 diabetes, I have also had 2 MRI's and MRA's over the past 2 years (both normal).  Everytime any of my doctor's listens to my heart they say it sounds normal and my blood pressure is always normal during my visits.  I've been tested every year for thyroid problems and my tests have always came back normal.  My liver enzymes have been high the past year, but my doctors think that it is because I have fatty liver (came up on an ultrasound and a ct)

I look forward to hearing your opinion!

Thanks!

Congrats on the wt loss.  Hopefully the diabetes is improving as you approach your goal.  Regular exercise and following a low glycemic index diet should also help.  I would not worry too much about the stars.  If you want, you could get another eye exam to be sure.

Thanks for your reply.  I was on the verge of being obese a few years back and have since lost weight (I went from 5'2 185 lbs to 150 lbs).  I make sure to see my opthamologist every year, my last appointment was in January.  I have never seen these stars before until about a year ago and they occur probably once every other month or so.

For the blurry vision at the end of the day, consider using over the counter artificial tears to see if your vision improves (?possible dry eyes?).

Why do you have type 2 diabetes and a fatty liver at the age of 24?  are you significantly overweight?  I don't see a direct connection between these problems and the symptoms you have.  I would assume you may be nearsighted as in my experience younger patients that get floaters usually are and in themselves they are not dangerous.  If you ever get a burst of light out of the corner of either eye, a new bunch of floaters, or a dark curtain or cloud comming over your vision, you should call your ophthalmologist right away.  Make sure you see your ophthalmologist at least once a year if not more.
