Severe Myopia and pregnancy

Hi,

I am severely myopic (-9.75 and -11.25) and 28 years old. I am considering getting pregnant but seriosuly concerned that pregnancy will make my eyesight even worse. I know pregancy can affect vision which usually goes back to normal but I am worried that me already being sevrerly myopic may induce further changes that are irreversible. My prescription is already unusually high.

Are there any hihg myopes out there that were already severely myopic before getting pregnant? What was your experience? Thanks!

You should discuss with your ophthalmologist. Generally you would not avoid pregnancy due to your high myopia. In most cases if there is any change it is temporary and is due to elevated hormones.  In almost all instances the myopia reverts to pre PG level. It has not been a problem for the many high myopes I take care of who have had multiple children.
