retina holes and Lasik

I have a very minor hole in my retina and was told that I should see a retina specialist before I can be cleared for LASIK, how necesary is that, and should most retina holes be repaired before LASIK?

Even the experts such as retinal surgeons Eye MDs sometimes disagree aboue which holes/tears should be treated. Depends on many factors, size, shape, location, family history, etc. I would strongly suggest you see the retina surgeon before LASIK

Hi Sir,

I am 26 years old and I have a number of 2.5 in both eyes.
While doing retina scan as part of LASIK procedure, I was detected with holes in retina. These were treated through laser treatment and the doctors said that I can go for LASIK after about 3 weeks. However, from what i have read online, it appears that there might be severe problems including problems of floaters etc in one goes for LASIK after retina laser treatment. Would you be please help me & suggest if  I should go for LASIK after this retina treatment or not?
Thanks a lot.

Regards
Abhay

There is some risk with any surgery and the risk of LASIK is higher given your retina holes. It depends on how important it is for you to get out of glasses or contacts. Know that if the LASIK works perfect and you don't need glasses you will start to need glasses in your mid 40's and as you get into your 50s and 60s you will be in progressive bifocals for reading. If your glasses RX is -2.50  when you get older you will be able to read without glasses while if lasik you will need glasses

Very necessary.  Many types of holes require no treatment at all.
