Is Retinitis pigmentosa only inherited?

Is Retinitis pigmentosa only inherited? For example, if my parents and both their parents' sides do not have it nor any relatives. is it possible the next generation could?

retinitis pigmentosa can be 'spontaneous' which means neither your parents had nor had the gene; or it can be inherited in any genetic method dominant, recessive, latent, variable penetrance.

Chances for someone having it with no relatives? and by what age would it be noticable especially on retina exam?
Can't give 'odds'  can appear anywhere from birth to late middle age. Sometimes only affects a segment of the retina.
