Stabbing eye pain -- papilloma?

When I carefully removed a contact lens Monday night I suddenly felt this intense stabbing pain which has continued, though less intensely and now intermittently (every few minutes).  I saw a doctor Tuesday who said my eye looked fine, only minorly inflamed, and prescribed antibiotic drops which have not had any effect yet.

Reflecting on the experience I realized it was a lot like the stabbing pain I've felt preceding the growth of a wart (of which I've had a few including one very recently).  So my theory is that a papilloma is growing on my eye or eyelid. However I haven't been able to see it.  I may feel the presence of something in my eye or I may just have convinced myself I do.

My question is, does my theory make sense?  Since the pain continues, should I return to the doctor or see another one?  Ruling out trauma to the eye, which I don't think there was, is there any other painful infectious agent my finger could have transmitted to my eye, other than the wart/papilloma virus?

Thank you.

Update: I went to a different ophthalmologist for a follow-up.  This one actually tested the pressure in my eye -- and found that it was 29 mmHg, way above normal.  Since the first ophthalmologist didn't check, we don't know whether this is my baseline (suggesting glaucoma) or is instead a reaction to the steroids that were prescribed to me.  My advice to people with eye pains: be sure your doctor checks the pressure in your eyes!

Papillomas are easy to see with the slit lamp biomicroscope that magnifies up to 20X. If you have one the "doctor" that say you should have been able to see it provided he/she used one.

A much more common problem would have been for the contact to have scratched or irritated your cornea.

I would suggest you see the professional that fit your contacts to re-evaluate the fit and ask them to look for a papilloma.
