Starbursts/glare after cataract surgery/Tecnis IOL

I had my cataract surgery yesterday and it was very successful. I had my follow-up visit today and uncorrected SVA is 20/70 - previously I was practically blind without glasses or CL. Today was the first day in my life when I did not reach for glasses first thing in the morning. Even 1 day postop my vision is much sharper, colors are brighter - I am very pleased with the results as I am extremely myopic(-19). Dr. Pamel used a Tecnis 5.0D IOL. The one problem is I have pretty strong starbursts(actually only running horizontally so not true starbursts) and glare around light sources. Dr. Pamel seemed a little surprised at this. Are they likely to go away as my eye adjust to the lens or do I have to learn to live with them? At night it is disorienting though not as blinding as the cataract glare.

I hope you continue to enjoy your new vision for many years.  Cataract surgery was a real gift for me, too.

Most of the starbursts/glare is gone - what is left is not too bright and I was able to make it home fine from my appointment with the retinal specialist despite a snowstorm, icy sidewalks - exactly the kind of situation I most feared when I had the cataract. According to my retinal specialist my eye looks 'beautiful' - he wants to see me in 2 months but everything couldn't be better - my vision is now 20/40, same as my corrected vision before the cataract. To say I am grateful is a huge understatement!!! I still need to be on 'orange alert' for RD as I have been for my whole life but today I feel like I have been given a new life in a big way. I wish I could find a way to show my gratitude to my surgeon - thank you to Dr. Hagan, Drs. Pernoud and all of the ophthalmologists who work miracles every day - if you told me 6 months ago I would see this well I would not have believed you.

Thank you JodieJ and Dr. Pernoud. This morning I noticed my vision is sharper and it is easier for me to use the computer. The glare/starbursts are still there but maybe a little less intense. I was just a little concerned when Dr. Pamel was surprised abut them. Otherwise I am so happy with my results and so relieved that my surgery is behind me.

The pupil is usually still slightly dilated the day after surgery and there is some residual cellular debris from emulsifying the lens so it is much too early to draw any conclusions.

Congratulations on having the surgery behind you.  You are very early in the healing process, and I think that the glare and starbursts will diminish over time.  Having 20/70 uncorrected vision one day post-surgery is really very good.  Keep us posted on your progress.
