Strabismus surgery with severe myopia

I'm 21 and I have -17 myopia and -4.5 astigmatism in both eyes, my right eye has intermittent exotrpia and turns outward whenever im not focusing on something, and it causes double vision.

Can I have surgery in order to straighten my right eye?can my high myopia  have any affect on this surgery or its outcome?

Only an exam and careful history would allow a useful answer. Be sure you are seeing an Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in eye muscle problems (strabismus).  If the eyes are straight some of the time (which if intermittent XT would be the case) then eye muscle surgery, often recession of both lateral rectus muscles can be helpful. there care be risks of post surgery double vision and the -17 eye has very thin sclera and great care has to be taken reattaching the eye muscle.

Thanks for replying Dr. Hagan

Can high myopia under any circumstance affect my suitability  for eye muscle surgery?can it make me non-suitable for it?
If the eye has good vision, no it would not make you unsuitable.  Myopic eyes are long eyes, and long eyes have very thin sclera.  It is extemely difficult sometimes to reattach the the muscles without putting the needle into the eye with potential serious complications. They is why you want a surgeon that just does eye muscle problems (Strabismologist or often called pediatric ophthalmologist, they almost all do adults)
