Sudden Appearance of Freckle Behind Eye?

Hi,

Mid 20s male. Glasses primarily for using screens as work in IT. Checkups every 2 years, slightly worse eyesight this time round but nothing noticeable.

At this checkup, the lady discovered a freckle on my eye when doing the torch shining thing. She called in her superior to look as they were surprised there was nothing on record about it, suggesting it had not been there last time I went. They even had to check id been there before!

Is it normal for a choroidal nevus to form that fast? In less than 2 years? I was always under the impression a fast forming growth is indicative of something more serious.

Has anyone else been suddenly told they have a freckle on their eye?

Been referred for a ROUTINE check (this has to be positive?!)

Freaking out that this is more than just a freckle as been having eye tests for all my life, religiously, and nothing like this has ever been found.

Thanks for all input.

A choroidal nevus that was definitely NOT there two years ago, and now is so large that supervisor's are being called in, is concerning.  Now its possible that it WAS there 2 years ago and not noticed by whomever examined the eye, if your eye was NOT dilated 2 years ago it generally is impossible to check the peripheral retina for choroidal nevus.    Choroidal nevus are like moles on the skin. If they are small, flat, have uniform pigmentation and smooth borders not likely to be a melanoma.  HOWEVER, that being said you need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist,  if the people that saw you were ophthalmologists and they were concerned you need referred to an Eye MD retina specialist.

Hi,

Thanks. Not sounding great then. The woman who came had "Optometrist" on her badge I believe. I'm not sure they were so worried about the size, more that it hadn't been documented before. I'm hoping it was indeed there 2 years ago and just had not been noticed. The woman at the most recent one did say it looked flat, which is what they'd hope them to look like, but until I see an ophthalmologist I'm not sure what to think.

Thanks
No one can tell you for sure but if the last exam before this was also by an optometrist and/or the pupil was not dilated it likely has been there before. The odds are heavily in your favor but do see the ophthalmologist. Usual treatment is to photograph and have an Eye MD ophthalmologist follow closely.
