Teaching center for 2nd opinion

We were discussing university/teaching hispitals for retina surgery on the other forum. I want to consult with someone regarding my care during the last year. I want to stay close to central texas, in case I want to go back to the selected place for care.

I checked out Hermann in Houston, and found no adult ophthalmology. Does Baylor/Houston have a good reputation? How about Scott and White Institute in Waco, Texas? The web site for the last one is down.

My insurance requires no referral. Is there any advantage to having a referral from a physician?

Baylor  very good.
Scott and White very good.
Hermann does have adult ophthalmology because one of our surgeons did his adult corneal fellowship there.

Sometimes a physician can get you in quicker. Sometimes the physician can help get all old records to the consultaant.
