Treatment for Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fiber layer (NMNF)

Hi Dr.
We are supporting a few orphans in Cambodia. One of the orphans ( 22 year of age now) can see objects near to her clearly, but objects farther away are blurry. We asked her to see an Eye Doctor today and Doctor told her that she has Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fiber layer on her left eye. Dcotors said that there is nothing they can do.

Is there any treatment for fixing Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fiber layer? Will her Left Eye continue to detoriate? I have a picture of the left Eye from the Eye Doctor in Cambodia. I will be happy to send you the picture of the affected Eye.

Kindly Advice.

Regards
John

Do the best you can. Important to protect the good eye from injury (consider wearing glasses for protection) and avoid high eye injury activities and wear activity appropriate eye protection. Also healthy lifestyle (don't smoke, don't get obese, good diet, exercise, etc).

Thank you Doctor for your kind advice. I am in the States now, but I will let the young lady in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) know about your advice about wearing glasses to protect her good eye. Do you recommend any special kind of glasses for protection? I will also send you high quality pictures of her eyes as soon as I have them.

I am in the USA now but will be there on the 19th of next month. If you recommend some special glasses, I will buy it from the Sates and take them there.
If the good eye doesn't need a prescription then the lens will have no power and and worn for protection. That means the frames can be attractive but not flimsy. The lens will have power  0.00 (plano)  The material should be impract resistance plastic (polycarbonate)or Trivex  LINK  https://www.allaboutvision.com/lenses/polycarb.htm

Mylenated nerve fibers are NOT a cause of poor vision. Does NOT require any treatment.  A different cause for reduced vision would need to be found. Overwhelmingly the most common cause of good near vision but bad distance vision is MYOPIA (near-sighted) and glasses should take care of that problem. You can post the picture or put a link to it. But again that could NOT cause reduced central vision. Very common finding and not cause problems.

Thank you Doctor for your quick response. May God always bless you for our kindness. It will be great if we could guide this young orphan lady in Cambodia.

Please see a link below for the Bad Eye (the Right Eye). When she closes her Left Eye (the Good Eye) and tries to use only her Right Eye, she sees everything blurry. If the letters are big, she can read the letters only if held close to her Eye.

If you need the picture of the Good Eye (left Eye), I have that picture too.
Those photos are terrible.  The dark areas to the right and central should not be there. They prevent interpretation of the photo. However none of the out of focus areas shown have myelinated nerve fibers.  Much more likely is this eye may be highly myopic/highly astigmatic and. Amblyopia.  If possible need to see an eye MD ophthmologist.  If you saw Eye MD and were told MNF cause of poor vision you need a better consultant.   Look up “retina photograph” on Google images and see what a high quality looks like no black spot in center on on the edge.
