Was told I have PVD by optometrist

Dr Hagen
I found a new optometrist that close to house. She’s got a good reputation and I needed new contacts so she did eye exam.  I told her I noticed a new floater or two in left eye.  She dilated and was very thorough used headset as well.  She said that she thinks I’ve gone through PVD. I’m probably butchering this but she said that the “membrane in back of eye looks like it’s completely dropped” she wants me to come back in 8 weeks to check again bc sometimes she said small bits hold on and being that I have a lattice patch in bottom right she’s like to look. She did say most tears happen at top of eye when membrane starts to drop”.  I know I Saw my retina doc 6 weeks ago, could this be possible in short time since I saw you that I went through PVD? Can optometrists “see” PVD occurred with dilated exam

Yes a PVD can occur in a minute. I would call the retina doctor, relay what you posted and ask if need to come in for the retina MD to do a much more thorough exam.  Skills and equipment much better than optom.

Thank you so much.  I did email ret doc he wants me to come in and he said I can wait til Tuesday.  Is this something I should try to get in sooner? He said if optometrist did not see tears with optimap and also using dilated eye exam with slit lamp and headset then he feels comfortable waiting until Tuesday.
What did she mean by membrane part
Most likely she meant the posterior vitreous membrane.  Against the retina when we are born, in PVD separates and peels off retina.
Ok. thanks. She said she didn't see any tears and retina looked good. Like I said my retina doc felt good waiting until Tuesday. I am just a little anxious about this...would you recommend I get in sooner or go off of retina doc's comfort? Thanks again for your time.
Your call. If your OD and Eye MD were okay with waiting likely is.
I'm guessing if I'm getting PVD in one eye the other will follow suite soon. That scares me as my other eye is eye with heavy lasering that barricaded partial detachment. Man, that worries me that when PVD hits it will detach that barricade :(
thanks as always for listening sir...this gets me so down

As Dr. Hagan mentioned my PVD seemingly happened in my LE in a minute, or at least it became symptomatic quite suddenly. One morning I had no symptoms and by mid-morning I had the typical distortion and wavy lines.  My RE also was diagnosed with  macular pucker, now over three years ago, but so far remains non-symptomatic. I was fortunate to have an optometrist who has a OCT scanner in his office when I first experienced the symptoms in my LE, and he referred me the same morning I saw him to a retinal specialist who I now see twice a year
Thanks for the insights
Mr Presley
With PVD can you have wavy lines? I'm not sure I"ve had distortions. I basically saw a flash and my current floaters in LE seem "more pronounced" and almost electric like...but they are same ones I generally see. Some straight lines look a hair wavy but it could be my mind playing tricks on me :)

Look at an Amsler Grid every so often and it will readily reveal any wavy lines or distortions in your vision. They can be easily found online. My own PVD resulted in the formation of an epiretinal membrane (ERM) in my LE that required a vitrectomy and ERM peel to correct.  No doubt it had been there for some time but never resulted in any symptoms until quite suddenly back in August 2015. My RE had a peripheral horseshoe tear in the retina, no doubt also caused by PVD, that was non-symptomatic and was successfully treated by laser in my retinal specialist’s office the first time I saw him.  I don’t recall ever experiencing flashes in either eye, floaters yes however.
Thank you...I used Amsler and lines look fairly normal maybe a hair/touch wavy. My retina doc in May did OTC and exam and he said no issue with macula/pucker etc...Thanks for your responses that helps
I have to try to get over my anxiety and minute to minute fear that ill get a detachment with my current  PVD and when it happens in other eye that my laser barricade won't hold up :(. dammit anxiety
