What could cause this type of swelling

So over the last few months on occasion my eye would start watching and within just a couple of minutes my eyelids would be so puffy that I can hardly open that eye. The eye itself feels like someone is poking me in it constantly and waters. After about 36 hours it will go away but will generally happen again in a few weeks. Sometimes it worse than others

That is an unusual complaint. If it was both eyes systemic allergy might be expected (e.g. hayfever). But just one eye more problematic. Usually if one eye it is contact allergy, something the eyelids come in contact with generally by rubbing the eye. There are some very rare problems that can cause one eye to swell. You need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Take some pictures of what the eye looks like when swollen to show the Eye MD.  If you live in large metro area and have access to Eye MD subspecialists look for ophthalmologist that specializes in "cornea and external diseases".

Thank you I have made an appointment and will be seeing the doctor in about an hour
Please let us know if you find a cause.
According to the eye doctor it was a clogged and infected oil duct. I am on 14 days of antibiotics.
