Why am I seeing my glasses’ rims as an afterimage when NOT wearing glasses?

Hello, I’ve started wearing mild prescription glasses six days ago (stiff neck, sore eye muscles and migraines, including auras, as symptoms; -0,5 astigmatism was determined). I have a computer profession, and this was determined as related due to the strain of focus.
Two days ago, after taking off my glasses in the evening, I noticed a slight feeling as if I was still seeing the rims of my glasses, the day after as well. Now I wake up in the middle of the night and wonder why I’m wearing glasses - but I’m not. It looks as if there is a slight afterimage of my rims visible to me. What can cause this? It’s freaking me out. Eye exam was three weeks ago and anatomically, everything was fine. My glasses have fine rims and a relatively large frame, so I assume they are not even in prominent view  for my eyes as other frames would be.

That is an extremely unusual complaint. You might try going without the glasses for a couple of weeks. It sounds like there is not much of a RX in your glasses. Also determine if the glasses actually helped you see better or relieve any strain. If not you might want to return the glasses. If they did help you, discuss with the 'eye doctor' that prescribed them. Worse comes to worse you may need to try different frames and different size.

After some time of being awake and not wearing them while turning on the lights, I fortunately feel the afterimage has disappeared. It was like a ghost! I do see sharper and feel instant strain relief when wearing them. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to do anything like reading and using screens without them. Thank you for the info, I would switch to contacts for the time being, but unfortunately, there are none of these toric diopters (they don’t start until-0,75). I will be looking into rimless options. I do feel as if this occurrence is in the same vein as my migraine auras.
Best of luck
