cataract surgery

I am ten days post surgery with a toric in re. Medically perfect. Vision rotten. Halos galore, colors brighter, size and depth altered. I guess this is due to the removal of the cataract and the correction of the astigmatism. Dr.is telling me I will have to be measured for reading glasses as well as computer glasses, since the temp pair of reading glasses 2.5 is useless. After dark is a horror show. I am far worse off than pre-surgery. I have done very little driving after dark or in rain for 2 years. Given halos and flares this is regression not improvement. I chose the toric over the restor since night vision is so important for me. Cannot tell you how unhappy I am right now after working so hard to make the right decision. I am awaiting my second surgery in three weeks for a toric in the left eye. It is quite challenging living with the disparity and trying to go to work each day and earn a living. I feel I made a huge mistake having this surgery.  Wondering whether to cancel, postpone, get another opinion. Feeling ripped off by the medical establishment. Based on my experience, would rather have just had cataract removed and gone for new ultrathin progressives at the optometrist. Premium lens were very costly over and above my insurance. It looks like I will be needing the progressives anyway.

Things have improved some.My rt eye measures 20/25 tho my brain does not always recognize it. And I can use the 2.5 readers a bit now. My "stars" have more points but I am getting used to them. Night is still really bad. We are now getting ready for second eye. Toric not needed as astigmatism is less than .75. Regular iol with relaxation is option one. Or if I feel wealthy I could do the Restor, option two. Having been severely nearsighted over fifty years, having only distance in the right has been a challenge the last few weeks. I have trouble with personal and household chores, and have not been able to do quilting, sewing, craft work I love. Willing to spend on the Restor if I can feel more secure and confident in daily life. Would appreciate medical recommendations as well as some practical voices of experience. Thanks.

I had mine done in the right eye 2+ months ago - I can tell you definitely that you need to wait longer to let things settle down before deciding you are unhappy.

When I had my vision specs remade for the new vision I went from -6.5 to +0.75 in the right eye, my other eye is still -6.5.

The new temporary glasses made my head spin and I almost chucked them in the bin, but I wore them 1 hour per day, then 2, then 3 and gradually increased it - guess what, the specs my optician told me would not work are now fine and I am not longer dizzy even with such a large differnce in prescription.

Also the halos tend to dimish after 4 weeks.

So hang in there for a while longer.

You probably would have the same amount of glare with a standard IOL.  Toric IOLs correct astigmatism for a decrease need for glasses for distance. The GLARE is about the same or less with toric IOLS (since astigmatism is corrected).  The size difference and loss of depth perception should improve after surgery in the second eye.
