choosing IOL

i am very nearsighted and just had my first cataract removal and Abbott IOL set for reading. For the 2nd eye my surgeon is suggesting I set for distance. What I am seeing on line suggests that there is a 20% chance I will not be happy or adjust to this. My left eye is  -8.25 and right -4.25  if I read the RX correctly. I did not want the Toric lens but think now I should have selected both IOL's to be set for distance. Welcome comments---I did choose monofocus. I previosly did not adjust well to progressive lens's and went back to bifocals. Myy next surgery is in 10 days.

forgot to mention that I have mild astigmatism which Dr said would worsen with the surgery-hence his recommendation for Toric lenses. I passed on that as everything could be corrected with glasses  and giving up glasses is not a goal for me---have worn them since 4th grade and they are part of me now.

I would set your dominant eye for distance.  Most people adapt at about 3 months.  If not the near eye can easily be fixed with laser.
