droopy eye lid

I recently had my eyes checked and the eye doctor mentioned that on of my eyes was smaller? I asked her what she meant and she said that my eye lid is lower on one side. What I would like to know is why? What causes one eye lid to droop down lower? I don't know if it has gotten worse or if now I am noticing it more because she mentioned it. I have had seizures in my childhood, and maybe small ones since adulthood. Could a seizure cause this?

Thank you so much for your response. I just spent 300 dollars taking my 10 year old daughter to the ophthalmologist!! I will look at old photos tho, and research this Homer's Syndrome. I wonder if the optometrist, looked for the dilation lag/constriction in the pupil that you spoke about.

A droopy eyelid could mean many things.  Sometimes it is congenital and may progress with age.  Looking back at old photos may help in determining this.  Other times, it could be a sign of something more serious.  I have been just diagnosed with Horner's Syndrome and the key findings include a droopy eye and dilation lag/constriction in the pupil of the same eye (as a result of damage to the nerve path that controls the muscles responsible for those things).  Horner's Syndrome could be the result of something serious and I'm getting worked up for it now.  You should make an appointment with your ophthalmologist to make sure everything is OK.
