explant/exchange Restor lens

I am scheduled to have a Restor lens explanted and exchanged on August 31.  I am no longer disappointed I am terrified! I had the implant surgery on the left eye 1 month ago.  Has anyone had an explant  done sucessfully and  after how long had it been in.  I am told that it may be difficulty to remove becasue it is already under some rim although that does not mean it will not come out.  Please if anyone can ease my mind a little, let me know

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, when an IOL has been implanted for more than a couple of months, it gets anchored in the eye.  Your ReStor was implanted only a month ago, which should make it much easier to remove.  I'm not an eye surgeon, but I know that a ReStor has exactly the same dimensions as Alcon's monofocal IOLs.  I don't understand why explanting it would present special problems.  (Explanting the Crystalens, with its large accommodating "legs", might be somewhat more difficult.)  I really think that your procedure on Monday will go fine, and you can close the chapter on all your problems with ReStor.  Post again to let us know.

Do I need a skilled surgeon or one that has already removed Restor lens.  I heard from
Londonbridge.  She did not say whether her surgeon had removed other Resto lenes
or not.  I guess I'll just have to go through with it and pray for the best. I feel sure he is capable.

I really need some reassurance.

Thanks Jodie.

Is there a big difference with removing a Restor  lens than it would be for a regular iol lens.

Ask your doctor is he has removed a Restor type of IOL,  if not ask for a referral to one who has experience removing this type of IOL.

Thanks so much.  I do feel better.  I guess the doctor had to give me the worst case scenerio.  Jodie you have  been great.  I don't know what I would have done without your replies.  I worry about everything.  I am driving my husband crazy .  I am worried because he said the rim of the lense is over the iol and this COULD not will make it difficult.

I have to think positive.  I'll get back to you and let you know the good outcome.
thanks again.

Also, when I had the lens implanted I had general anastetic.  I felt awful after.  This time I am not.  Now I am worried about being awake.  Everyone says it is not bad at all.  See what I mean, I worry about everything!

Since your ReStor has only been in your eye for a month, explanting it should not be difficult.  Many people have had IOLs successfully explanted--so try not to worry.
