is there a link between chemical exposure

Thankyou for the advice, my doctors have said my scleritis is idiopathic as all tests so far are normal, just wondering as i am a verterinary nurse and am constanly in contact with antiseptics, chemicals, anaesthetic gas (isoflurane) Xray fluids and more I try to be careful but especially the xray fluid fumes and isoflurane vapours (from recovering animals breathing on me in cages)are unavoidable due to bad ventilation and confined spaces, Was wondering if ther may be a link, my scleritis started after i had been working in this industry for a year? dose anyone know if there could be a link

Scleritis doesn't have to involve the whole eye for it to be scleritis.

Hi, yes im quite sure it is scleritis it usually ocours in one eye for a few days then the other for a few days rarely both at the same time and the pain is really severe, and when i move my eye or try to focus on something close for example the front of my shirt there it is really painfull like someone yanking really had on the back of my eye its hard to describe but it often brings me to tears in more ways than one! and my eye is a vivid red allover, i cant look at the computer or TV and even with sunglasses my eye starts wartering. Also the area around my eye feels bruised as if ive been punched, i call it my grumpy eye disease!  is there an average time that people have this condition ? is it common to have it for years?

Do you really have scleritis? or episcleritis? Scleritis is a severe ocular inflammation with deep boring pain. The entire eye is red. Episcleritis is much more common. May be mildly painful and is sectoral, that is, the redness is only in a specific sector of the eye while the rest of the eye is white. Episcleritis may occur in healthy young people. Both scleritis and episcleritis can be related to underlying collagen vascular disease such as rheumatoid or lupus. Never heard of it being related to external source. I have seen what appears to be episcleritis due to catapillar hairs and fiberglass fibers and eyelashes chronically rubbing the conjunctiva.

No its not your work or your work environment. My daughter is a Vet so I'm familiar with your occupation. There is not a higher rate of scleritis in that profession than others.

Most idiopathic things leave us scratching our head and saying "Why me? Why now?"
