mini mono,or distance lens after cataract surgery?

I had an epiretinal peel operation left eye ten months ago. some improvement in distortions but residual distortions and double vision. Prism number two added to glasses, not great result. Now have a cataract and greatly reduced vision in left eye. I have astigmatism in both eyes, borderline for toric lens. I may need a cataract peration in right eye in future and possibly an ERM peel, though membrane seems stable at present causing only mild distortion. Surgeon planning to put in a mono distance lens in left eye, optometrist recommending a micro mono,. Stated aim of surgeon is to reconcile both eyes as far as possible. Aim of optometrist to enable me to function somewhat without glasses, as I have always been able to do, only using glasses for driving, bird watching, TV etc and in later life for reading. I used varifocals for many years but couod not tolerate them after development of ERM. Any suggestons as to whether to take surgeons or optometrist advice? Double vision expert thinks I will always need prisms...though as I said, they are not working so well just now but then the cataract eye is so blurry, nothing could help it to see.

I would always go with the surgeon.  With macular disease like ERM toric and multifocial IOLs are not recommended. You will likely need multifocal glasses all or most of the time.  Read this and if you have further questions please post.  LINK  https://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/1648102/Consider-ALL-the-Options-Before-Your-Cataract-Surgery-Working-Through-Whats-Best-For-You--2019-2020-Update
