Thank you so much. You're a big help. Salamat
Hi,
I ans your questin on another post. Dr. Hagan has told your that , as far as visits are concerned, do as the doctor suggests. If your daughter needs to ask the doctor questions, you could make an extra visit.
Also, take her to a retinologist for her next checkup, and see what he says about how often to visit.
I kind of make my own decisions, in this regard. My daughter, who is grown, saw a retinologist last year for her checkup. He told her that she could go to an ophthalmologist next year. I told her that she should always go to a retinologist.
Also, I see my retinologist when I have new symptoms. I am scheduled to go every four months now. Bur I have never been away more than 5 weeks. I have serious problems that produce scary symptoms.
If your daughter eveh has any of the symptoms that we have told you to watch out for, go immediately, even though she has been the week before.

thank you so much. is there any preventions on retinal detachment? my daughter wear corrective lenses. is yearly dilated exam ok? or shall we do it every 6 mos? God bless you.
You are welcome. Of course, Dr. Hagen gave you excellent additional advise. Every point he gave you is so important. Make sure that you and your daughter memorized the symptoms of a retinal detachment, and that she knows what a floater and a flashing light are, as well as a curtain or veil. I also call it a glass-like object in the vision.
My retinas have been weak all my life. My daughter has always been very myopic. Both her retinas detached at 18. Her opthal mologist caught this on a routine exam. My daughter is fine now.
My eye doctor did not pay attention to my symptoms of detachment a year ago. I have lost most vision in my left eye.
So make sure you and your daughter watch out. Make her aware, without alarming her. If her eye ever detaches, she should see the doctor immediately, because detachments should be caught within the first two weeks.

thank you for giving time to answer my question. God bless u :-)
1. Yes your daugher is at significant risk of RD and that will increase as she gets older. Know symptoms: sudden onset of floaters, flashes of light like lightening, curtain or veil over eye.
2. Have yearly dilated eye exam by an ophthalmologist.
3. All her eye care should be by eye MD NOT and optometrist.
4. She will see much better with contact lens.

Has your daughter seen an eye MD, an ophthalmologist? An eye exam by an MD will help you monitor's your daughter's eye health. Only an exam can allow an MD to say if your daughter is vulnerable. Myopia alone does not mean that her retina will detach.
You are right in monitoring her eyes closely, as detachments do sometimes occur in multiple family members.
The doctor will respond to your question.
