myopic schisis

Hello Dr. Hagan,

I was diagnosed with myopic schisis a year ago via OCT scan and was told to come back in a year to see if the schisis progresses.  I had an OCT scan again and was told that myopic schisis has gotten worse and the Retina specialist said that if the schisis gets worse, there is a surgery that might help.  He states that it is a high risk surgery as I am very nearsighted. My current symptoms are wavy lines.  He said to come back in three months to see if my symptoms and OCT results get worse.

I am very confused with the findings and wanted to ask you, based on your experience, what happens to vision if no surgery is done?  I definitely don't want to have such a high risk surgery.

Is there anything I can do to stop the myopic schisis from getting worse?

Thank you,
Alex

Let me be frank. I'm a general ophthalmologist whose surgical career is largely cataract/IOL and glaucoma. I do not have the breath of experience in the natural history of mac schesis to answer your question
