Certainly carrots are good for your eye but spinach (for the lutein) is better. Most people get plenty of beta carotene.

Carrots, as does most orange-colored vegetables/fruit, contain beta-carotene, a nutrient necessary for night vision.
According to Snopes this is a myth that was perpetrated by the RAF during WW2 to disguise the fact that they were using advanced radar to spot Nazi bombers.
