visual disturbances

I'm almost 45 and in the last few days, I have been experiencing visual disturbances, in the form of a kaleidoscopic arc, which begins small in the centre of vision, and gradually becomes larger, which then leaves the field of vision.  It remains when either eye is covered.  Before it start, I have a shivery sensation. Throught, my left eye feels as if it is working very hard. Afterwards, I am left with a dull headache, mainly over the right eye.  I have worn glasses since my earky teens. I have astigmatism and am short-sighted.  I am having a stressful time at the moment,as I am trying to wean my 19-month old, and my five-year old is giving me a hard time.  I am shaking off a cold.  I have never had a migraine.  My mother had them in later life.  In my twenties, I tried the contraceptive pill, and experienced a similar thing, so I came off it.  I have longstanding high blood pressure, which is managed, and asthma which is also managed.  I am also overweight.  Please could you advise me?

Thanks, it's nice to know I'm not the only one.  I have been quite stressed and not getting a lot of sleep.  Oh. to be able to sleep for 12 hours at a time :)

Hey there,
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have had these since I was 14 years old. I was diagnosed with migraines with aura. I also have these without headaches. They are scary. I get them more when I am stressed out and lacking sleep.
Hang in there!

I'm not a doctor, Sandra, but I do have what's called 'migraine with aura.'

Google that term.  I think you will be amazed.
