Can you have kids with one kidney?

Hello I'm 25 no health problems I want to donate my kidney to an aunt who needs one but my concern is I want to have kids when I get older. So I was wondering can you have kids with one kidney and what are some risks can you have?

Well, then really, that's great. The issue of pregnancy and one kidney is a non issue and it shouldn't impact anything.

Pcos makes it more challenging to get pregnant, true.  I know friends who have taken metformin with success prior to getting pregnant or they take clomid when it is time.  Your doctor will help you.

When are you thinking of undergoing the surgery with your aunt?  I've heard it is a pretty intense surgery in terms of recovery. Do you have people to help take care of you for the first bit after the hospital?

Oh, yes. You can.  Some people are born with one kidney and have no idea until much later in life after they have had kids. You should be fine to have kids.  I think it is a noble thing to do. It's scary because the thought is 'what if' something happens and your one kidney goes bad . . .   having two comes in handy then, for sure.  But to save someone's life---  that risk may be worth it.  Is this something you really want to do?

Yes it is something I been thing about for the past year. She has been on the donor list for the past two years now. The only thing I do have is PCOS witch I know is much harder to get pregnant. Thank you so much for the information.
