Cost of treatments

I want to know how an average person is able to pay for IVF cycles if needed?? I have read where couples have done 5 or 6 IVF...I can't even afford one...is there any programs out there that offer assistance??

Thanks for all the info :) It us just sad, my insuance pays either 90-100% for abortion, but won't pay for the procedures for IUI or IVF. I have to say I am very happy with my insurance so far, they are covering all my office visits and testing, lab work, all medications, I even checked on the injectables and they are covered. The most is a $15 copay. So I can't complain, but I am worried if we head to IUI or IVF we can't afford it. My ins is Unicare PPOM.

Although I've never had IVF, a close friend has.  Her costs were around $9K plus the meds.  She had it done in Nashville, TN.  Unfortunately, her cycle failed.  She said that if they try IVF again, there is a place in Louisville, KY, that does three IVF's for $17K and if you aren't successful, you get 70% of your money back.  Not sure if that cost includes meds or not, but probably not.

wow, i'm impressed with some of the insurance companies. the insurance we have now covers nothing, not even all the diagnostics. i am currently waiting for open enrollment to sign up under my employers plan to go see a fertility specialist. after 5 consecutive mc, i guess it's time. i will be thankful that the diagnostics will atleast be covered at that time and i can use my flex/cafeteria plan to cover the rest. good luck to you all and God Bless!!

We did 2 IVFs. Both were covered by our insurance. My husband had Cigna POS that covered. They have $20000 lifetime limit, so we were able to use it for 2 cycles. I live in Northern California

Programs offering assistance are rare to non-existent.  Insurance doesn't cover unless you live in a state that mandates coverage for infertility.

We are going to probably take a second on our house to or finance.

i just found out today that some plans from my health insurance thru work actually cover infertility at 80%.  The insurance company is Aetna.  I currently have the managed plan which does not cover but I just found out the "core Option" and "high option" plans have infertility coverage including ART.  Of course you have to go through the correct channels (ie., fail on clomid X number of times, fail on injectables, etc.)...but i am sure the coverage depends on the company you work for too.  Guess if I have no baby on the way by open enrollment next year, I may be changing plans.  ANyways it is interesting and maybe something to check out.

On another site I found two women from San Diego, Ca and one from Central Cal. that have coverage.  I can't figure out how to contact them on the site to see what insurance they have. I know where I go capital one is the finance company.
