First Meeting with RE

Well I had my first meeting with my RE yesterday.  Things look pretty hopeful.  We are going to wait for AF, start Clomid, and do the IUI with the injectable Ovadrel.  How many women have been through this, and did it work for you? Send positive thoughts my way!!

Thanks Ladies - I have endometriosis (diagnosed stage 2 last August), was on Lupron for 6 months and haven't had normal cycles since.  I've to take pills to get a period,...etc.  Husbands sperm is OK, there is lots of it, but only 3% is normal, where they consider 14% to be good, so he's a little low on that end.
Yes - Ovadrel is a shot that they give me after they do the ultrasound and see if my follicles are good.  Last time on the clomid I had plenty of follicles, and one that grew too large it was causing so much pain!!! So they think that they are growing, they just aren't releasing. So, this is the next step!

Follistim is an injectable fertility medicine.  It helps stimulate your ovaries to create lots of follicles (fluid filled sacks that are in the ovaries that contain your eggs) instead of just one like you get monthly.  It requires you to be monitored closely with blood work and ultrasounds with your RE.  Ovadrel is an HcG shot, right?  That is what they use to "trigger" ovulation and they will usually do the IUI 36 hours later.  I have had those a few times and then I did my own for the first time this past Monday.  I was freaked out because it was an IM shot, but I did fine with it thank God.

We are doing IVF right now.  ET will be on Monday morning if our embryos keep developing like they have been.  Our issues are 100% unexplained.  Although, after this IVF we may have more of an answer.  They did ICSI, which is when they inject the sperm into the egg, instead of letting them fertilize on their own....thinking that maybe it was a sperm issue, but they only retrieved 7 eggs from 9 follicles from me and three fertilized.  So, it could be an egg issue with me, even though blood work was showing that was or never has been the case.

Good luck to you!  Let me know if you have any other questions!

What's an IUI with Follitism? -- I was on injections of Lupron for 6 months, so I'm not so afraid of needles anymore.... the only thing is that when I get the follicle check, they will give me the injection at the office if the follicles are ready, if not, I will have to do it at home by myself.  My husband said he would do it.

Hey Mommyof3, did anything work for you yet? And what "issues" do you have? :)

I had IUI with Follistim.  I also did IUI with Clomid.  Neither worked for me, but it works for many many others!  The injections are a breeze, so try not to worry too much about that.  I didn't use Ovadrel, but I think they are close to the same thing.  The procedure is super easy

Good luck to you!!!  Remember, IUI works awesome for a lot of people!
