How good are OPK's?

My question is:

Can you ovulate and be testing with OPK's but detect no surge?

Before my D&C on 27th September I had a very regular 30 day cycle, (never had to use OPK before) I went a huge 14 weeks without any period after the D&C and the first day of my last AF was 1/1/07 ( 4 days and very light for me)
I was really hoping I'd be back to normal this cycle, but
I have been testing twice (sometimes 3 times!) a day since 1/10  with "David Ovulation Test" manufactured by RUNBIO BIOTECH LTD
I have no idea of it's sensitivity, I bought them on ebay (United Kingdom) they are almost blank on the test line, sometimes a very pale pink line but nothing like the line I'm meant to be comparing to.
Today is day 22 and I still haven't seen a surge.
Do you think I simply haven't ovulated yet or could I have ovulated and the tests just haven't picked up on a surge? Could I have surged earlier than day 10 and I missed it?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Impatient Hugs,

Ruth xx

Hi there,

Thanks for your message :)

I agree! I don't know if you read my latest thread but I started my period on day 24!
Which means I probably surged on day 8 or 9- I only started testing on day 10 so I missed it completely!

I'm not going to bother with the OPK's this month :))
See what happens....

No OPK test is ever 100% accurate....try not to worry, assume you have not ovulated and just make sure you do the BD thing now, just to be on the safe side,  and as often as possible in the days before and immediately after your expected O day next month.

OPK's are a mixed blessing when you're ttc. They raise your hopes a lot because you feel so certain you have got a positive sign for O and you BD and do everything right - but then still get a BFN at the end of it all.

It's driving me crazy! (and costing me a fortune in OPK's!!!)

I know about the patience thing - I have none! I bet you are going to ovulate later this cycle- what day are you on?

Thanks for your reply, I'm just the MOST impatient person in the world which makes all this waiting SO frustrating!
You are probably right, it's going to be a LONG one! I haven't noticed any of the normal signs or CM since I started testing and I don't think I had any before.

you may have not ovulated yet- if you are having a 40 day plus cycle. This could be the case since it took you a while to get your 1st a/f after the d&c- you may have longer cycles for a while- I had a d&c on December 18th and ovulated this month on day 26... which equates to a 40 day cycle- I am normally 32 days.

Another possibility is that you ovulated really early this time. when I had a miscarriage in May of last year- I had a 40 day cycle followed by a 21 day cycle- I missed ovulation that time- b/c it happened so early... have you had any cm?
