How many embryos made it to transfer?

For those of you who have done IVF at least once, how many of your eggs made it to transfer?
I would also like to know, if you are over 40, how many follicles you had?
Just curious. Last month on my natural cycle they saw 7 follicles brewing (4 on R, 3 on L).  I just turned 40 three weeks ago.  Would love to hear from you!

I'm 39.5 years old.  With my new RE, every cycle I could produce 12-20 eggs, fertilized 8-12 and transfered 5-8 each cycle.  First cycle, MC at 6w, second one is ectopic, third one BFN (add accupunture), fourth one is 11w now.  Good luck to your comming IVF.

I will be 38.  My FSH is 8.  I am told under 9 is ideal.  Do you know what your # is?
I produced 7 eggs 4 fertalized.  transfer two & hoped to freeze the others but they didnt make it.  Good Luck to you.
I did one IVF cycle so far & resulted in m/c at 6 weeks.

My last FSH test was 11.2 and with the clomid challenge it registered 9.4.

So that is where it is for me right now.

I am sooooooo sorry about your m/c.  I had one last year and it seemed like forever
before I could get back on track with treatment.  Stay positive and hopeful, it does help.
Good luck on your next cycle, in the meantime take it easy and relax your mind.

Hi there-

We had 26 follicles, of which 12 eggs were able to be extracted, only 4 fertilized and only 2 were able to be transferred.  I was soooo disappointed but we are currently 25 weeks pregnant with a little boy, so it worked!  We did our IVF cyle in August and I am 35.

i wish you the best of luck!

I am 36, produced 15 mature eggs, 9 fertilized and 3 made it to transfer.  We had none to freeze but have a perfect little girl from the 3 that made it.
Good luck!

I'm 39, just had my first IVF cycle, had a good reaction to the meds. 28 eggs retrieved, 22 fertilized (23 actually but one was kind of a dud). They did a Day 5 transfer, only 2 embryos (my request - the thought of triplets terrifies me, esp at my age). Had 8 Day 5s and 2 day 6's leftover for cyropreservation. Good luck to you!!

babsnyc those are great #'s & alot higher then average.  Be careful not to be overstimulated.  You didn't mention if you got pregnant?

Yeah, I was wondered about overstimulation too but they said it all looked good and didn't cancel the cycle. I didn't mention pregnancy... b/c I don't know yet! ;-)  Go in on the 27th for blood test. Trying not to think about it... just eating really healthy and going about my day. But it does feel different from the IUI... I KNOW fertilization happened this time!

Thank you to all for your info.  Good luck BabsNYC, hope you get a BFP!
I hope I can get half of the eggs you had!  Like Kricket said, be aware that you still may experience hyperstimulation, if you feel really swollen and heavy, are short of breath and don't feel like eating - go home and lay down and call your doctor right away!!!

Keep the stories coming, I am very interested in this process.

Thanks peppypeep and Kricket! I am cautiously optimistic. If this round doesn't work (and I don't expect it will, for some reason...), I may see about doing 3 ET next time.
Will keep note of hyperstimulation symptoms... but man, I always feel like eating... Did get a little bloated and could tell my ovaries were swollen prior to retrieval, but wasn't uncomfortable.
Good luck to you ladies as well!

I am 34 (a little younger then what you were looking for) We did a cycle of IVF in july I had 24 follicles, 23 eggs retrieved, all fertilized but only 17 made to be frozen (minus 2 transfered, so i froze 15). That cycle failed but we went back in november for an FET. At first they thawed 2 day one zygotes to try to achieve a 3 day embryo but only one lived so on transfer day they defrosted 2 more day 3 and only one of those lived so they transeferd that one and the other one from 2 days before. I am now 10.5 weeks pregnant. I live in Canada and my RE says they have a moral obligation to NOT create multiples so they will only ever transfer 2-3 depending on your age when the eggs were fertilized and quality of embryos.

****UPDATE!!!

Ok so my ivf nurse called and I have to come in TOMORROW for another u/s and will probably take the ganirelix shot.

Thanks claud and danielle for the well wishes, I appreciate it.  I am thinking positive, I had my husband come with me today so he can see what is going on.  Anyway, this is all very exciting and we are that much closer to our goal.  If everything goes well, and I have some good embies to transfer, then my transfer will be end of next week!  That seems so soon!

At least I am stimming good......glad I made it over that hurdle.
I'll keep you all posted.

Soo happy that things are going your way so far.  Since you have 5 follies now if they continue growing I would guess you might have 3-4 eggs.  So exciting.........keep them growing.  When is your trigger shot?

Kricket212,

Thanks for your well wishes.
I have another UPDATE:
I had the u/s this morning and here is the change:
1 - 14 mm
1- 13 mm
1 - 12 mm
1 - 8 mm
1 - 7mm
1 - possible 6th follie
I had to take the ganirelix shot right after the u/s and they took bw.  Again, my hubby came with me.  I tried to keep the best count I could of the sizes, but I could have sworn that there are now 6 follies and that I missed one in my count.  I should have asked but I will ask when the nurse calls.

They will call me later with the bw results and my next appt and/or stim adjustment.  As far as the trigger, I am assuming it will be on Monday.  I say this because I only have 5 ganirelix shots and I used one this morning.  Well, I guess I should say Monday will be the latest for the trigger, but who knows.....we'll see.  Right now I need these to GROW and GROW fast!!!

ANOTHER UPDATE

So I heard back from the ivf nurse and I did indeed have 6 follies!

Here is the count:

2 - 14mm  !
1- 13 mm
1 - 12 mm
1 - 8 mm
1 - 7mm

I have to go in tomorrow morning again and have u/s and bw done.  My E2 today was 309.  I am really happy about the 4 follies that seem to be growing nicely.  Maybe that 8 will make it?  cross my fingers!

Today's u/s,
Here's the stats:

1 - 15mm
1- 14mm
2 - 13 mm
2 - "small ones"
E2 = 415

So it seems some grew and some didn't since yesterday but the doc was not worried.  I had a different doc today - she didn't take the size of the small ones.  She said she expects that I will have four to work with on this cycle.  She also told me that unlike IUI or natural cycles, IVF follies are mature at 16mm.  For natural cycle/IUI they have to be 18mm.  So, I am almost there with at least one follie.  The doc anticipated that it will be a couple of days before I am ready to trigger. I will probably trigger on Sunday night and have ET on Tuesday.  Just a guess.
So I will have to go back AGAIN tomorrow morning. ugh.

In general, about 70-80% of mature oocytes fertilize, and about 50% of those make it to blastocyst.
