I am 3 days late for my period could I be pregnant?

Hello, so my husband and i have been trying to conceive since last june. I was on birth control for almost 6 years. Last june i quit taking my birth control pills. i have recently started using a ovulation calendar to track what days i ovulate. We engaged in sex on 2 of my ovulation days which one was a 33% chance of pregnancy. I am always on time with my period i was suppose to start on the 21st and here it is the 24th and no period. Im 25 i want us to be pregnant, but there is a downfall that has me extremely worried. I might need ACL reconstructive surgery. Should I wait a little longer to take a pregnancy test? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

They say you can detect the pregnancy hormones on your missed pregnancy at a near 100%. I would test in the next couple of days

Thank you. I have been doing some research on it and they say the best results are within a week of your missed cycle. I just dont want to waste my only test if its to early to detect. Plus my husband says its a waste of money.
