Infertility and over weight

Hi there,
I m 24yrs old and got married last year in April,2007.At the time of wedding I was just 53 kgs and after wedding it has increased upto 63 kgs.Me and My husband went to the doctor ,she suggested us tests for the safe side and Thank God both of our tests were cleared.Doctor gave me metformin to reduce weight.does over weight is the issue to conceive?I have weight on my belly and stomach like upper stomach n lower stomach....Pls have a look on my problem and reply me.

Thanks alot Heather and ALT.Felt so supportive to read both of ur comments.I am not diabetic.Doctor suggested me this just for weight reduction.How it is confirmed about PCOS?Doctor suggested me hormone profile ,that was all okay...I have an appointment with the doctor for ultra sound next week....but how we can find abt PCOS?wht are the tests to chk with it?

If they gave you metformin it's probably either for diabetes or for PCOS.  I agree with Heather.  While you gained substantial weight for you, being 63 kgs isn't even in the overweight category and probably shouldn't affect your fertility.  However, if you are on metformin for PCOS, that will mess with your hormones and CAN affect your fertility.   If it is PCOS, you are still very young and very skinny (especially compared to most with pcos), so both of those things are very much in your favor and it shouldn't be too difficult for you.

Hi Meeno! Being overweight can cause problems conceiving...but 63 kgs doesn't sound like that much. I'm not really that familiar with metformin, but did your doctor give it to you just to lose weight, or are you taking it for any medical reasons?
