New to the forum

Hey ladies, I am new to the forum.  I am an embryologist, and often come across people who don't really understand the embryo side of IVF, so I joined to help in whatever way I can...and of course pray for all you ladies hoping for a BFP!

Thank you so much for Being so Generous to answer our Questions about our Embryos & our issues...

Here is my Question..My daughter donated her eggs to my husband and when She was 21 at the time, October of 2008. She produced 22 eggs and 16 fertilized, 9 made it to Blasts.
Fast forward to today. I did get pregnant from our 3rd IVF cycle with her eggs and gave birth to a son, March, 13th, 2010.
We have 2 Blasts frozen and we just did our last FET with the 2 Blasts. My question is that the RE came in while I was on the table getting prepped for Transfer, (I need to be put to sleep) because i have an Extremely retroverted uterus and it would take them over 30 miniutes while I was awake to get the Catheter in. by then I was bleeding and it was done, I knew they were not going to make it. It took me a long time to convince them to put me out where I was not stressed and hurting from them trying.

That is how I got pregnant with my Son.

First off I am not found of be putting to sleep and I was so nervous and he is trying to talk to me about the thawed blasts and I was really not fully listening...He told me they made it through thaw and they were still expanding, but they had fragmentation I don't know how much but can you tell me about that and why that happens.....My clinic does Vertification Freezing I thought that it was better for thawing the Blasts?

Thank you so Much for Your time and Help..

Hi my name is Christine and I just had my second ivf day 5  blastocysts transfer. They put 3 excellent quality blastocyts in on  9/15 and today is the 9/19. I'm very nervous since my last ivf cycle failed. I know this must sound strange but I was wondering if the embryos didn't implant by now would I be able to see them by the naked eye when I got to the bathroom? I'm so scared every time I pee there just gonna fall right out. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Christine

I just joined this website after coming across this string of useful information.  Are you still actively responding?  If so, I will respond with my history with IVF as I have some questions.

Thanks so much for the already posted useful information.

It is nice to have you here.  I am a 41 year old female who is on her last day of her 2ww after my first FET.  I transferred 3 embryos and I am crossing my fingers for a BFP this time.  Remarkably enough when I did my retrieval there was 19 eggs of which 11 survived and 7 made it to the 5 days stage.  Since I was in a study they transferred only 2 on my fresh cycle but I got a BFN. My RE was surprised because the embryologist told my husband and I that one of the two transferred was a textbook perfect embryo and that has never been seen in a woman my age.  I have lots of hope that this time I will get the BFP I am so hoping for although I feel absolutely nothing except a slight nausea most of the day today.
Well thanks for listening all and have an awesome day.

Hi i have a question i hope you dont think it's silly im 38 and i did my last ivf cycle in nov/07 wich failed. The night before my transfer i walked to the pharmacy to pick up my prenatal pills  and as soon as i stepped outside it started pouring rain  i was soaking wet i lived close by so i ran home about two blocks. In the morning i felt a bit of a chill alsmot like flu symptoms that came and went.Do you think that is the reason why my ivf failed i had my transfer on day 5?....When i spoke to my doctor she said it could of been due to stress.

I have a question about embryo quality.  If a person has low quality embryos (only 5-6 cell on day 3 and all fragmented) does that mean a higher chance of chromosomal abnormalities if the embryos implants and develops into a fetus?
Thanks!

It's Sasha here.  Unfortunatley, none of my 6 eggs implanted.  Thanks for the information by the way.  We will continue with IVF for a few more cycles hopefully.  Can you please still get the success rates for 42 year olds at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio?  Thanks!  Also, I believe my cycle should come on in a week or two.  What is your opinion on ttc on my own while waiting for the next IVF cycle?  Should I try to figure out when I'm ovulating and go from there?

Okay...this 2 ww will kill me yet....they called today day 6 to let me know that all 5 of my embryo's didnt make it to blast...she said that they got real close bt didnt make it.  SO now I worry that the ones they put in arent gonna make it.....they tried to assure me that they are in their natural enviroment and it is total diffrent than being in the culture.  I hope they continue to grow.....they were both great quality.  Any reassurance that I should compare the ones on the inside to the ones that were on the outside.

Hello.

I'm not sure if you ever answered this.  I tried to read the entire thread, but it is bit overwhelming.

I'm 38.  I've had 3 failed IUI's and 2 failed IVFs.  During both of my IVFs, the embryos (3) were all high quality and my lining looked good.  They were all transferred day 3 with 8 cell, 8 cell, and 6 cell.  Everything was optimal and best as it could be.  So, what could be the reason(s) that the embryos will not implant?

I have an unexplained infertility.. except old age :( .  I'm debating whether to try one more time or just let go.

Thank you soo much in advance.

Hi!
Thank you so much for being such an amazing resource.  DH has a male factor diagnosis (low motilaty - under 10% - and count - under 20 million).  He is on arimedex (sp?) and will be starting clomid.

We had a failed IUI cycle.  The cleaning brought DH's motilaty down to basically 0%.  The Dr. has reccomended  IVF with ICSI.  The nurse indicated that the motilaty is not an issue.  Can you please explain this process a bit?

Thank you in advance for your insight.

Here is a big mass answer to all of you -- sorry but I have been kept SO busy with IVF haven't had much time to get on here!

landdwantababy -- I think that sounds very promising! Keep me posted!
malvern

malvern -- So sorry to hear about your bad cycle.  Have they thought about doing any more testing to see if there are some other issues they can help resolve for a future cycle?  If you think donor sperm is going to help the issue I would give it a try!

Well dehydrated eggs, not really -- unfortunately those are terms we really do not use.  As far as them being immature, that is often caused by the stimulation cycle, but can be due to overall ovarian health.  I do hope they can give you some information which will help them move forward with treatment!

babycrzy1 -- sounds like great news all around!  There are cases of identicle twins with IVF because the embryo can split after the transfer, however, most IVF twins are just from two embryos.  And it does take time before they can grade.  The day of fertilization they can only say if it fertilized or not -- nothing more really, there is just nothing much to see until the embryo starts dividing!  Good luck and baby dust!!!

sashalake --  We usually recommend a cycle for 2 before moving to donor and if the cycle goes "well" as many as three or 4 times before moving on.  40 is a little old for a donor simply because a lot of eggs in a patient over 40 are going to be abnormal.  We usually see donors in their 20s and 30s.  I do hope for the best for you -- EMBRYO GLUE!!!

Carisa-  That is definitely possible.  We definitely like to see some expansion by the afternoon.  When embryos set up their "timetable" for division, it can vary by a number of hours -- so sometimes your embryos are just not at the same stage at the same time.  Doesn't mean one is better or worse!  GL!!

Hi Their

I now have official information about my eggs which didnt turn into an embryo. Maybe yu have seen this before. Three of my eggs were scrunched up and dehydrated. Have you ever seen this before and if so please tell me what it may mean. The doctor has no idea and so its quite hard for me, 5 of the eggs were immature (follicel sizes over 18mm) amd one egg was mature which dint fertilise.
Any info would be a godsend

An Actual Question about embryo's.......After fertilization if they are going to be identical twims at what point to the egg begins to divide and at what point is it too late and it will for surely only be one?  I had 2 transfered Tuesday...8 cells...one a grade 5, and one a 4+.  I am excited!  Oh I also had one that was always 2 cells ahead of the rest and they wanted to watch it for a 5 day freeze - it was a grade 5 (the best in our clinic) so what would be wrong with it?

I forgot to add that they checked them around 9am in the morning. Is it possible that it started to blastulate a little later on in the day? Carisa

Hi again!

Ok, I have another question for you. I'm still thinking about my compact morula that was transferred along with the blast on day five. You said you may get a little nervous if you don't see the morulas starting to blastulate on day five. How do I know if my compact morula was starting to blastulate? I know I sound like I'm obsessing, and yes......I am! Thanks again!

Thanks so much for responding!  I really appreciate it!  I am having my IVF treatments via the Cleveland Clinic.  Thanks for offering to get the specific success rates for me.  Again, I am 42 years old and had 6 embryos transferred a week ago.  I used my own eggs.  My husband and I are thinking that we will try IVF for a few tries if this one is unsuccessful before going to donor eggs.  How many tries would you suggest knowing that at my age I did have 6 that were transfered?  We started out with 13 retrieved and in the end 6 were transfered.  Also, would my sister who is about to turn 40 in October be a possible donor for me with her eggs in the near future if we choose to go that route or would you recommed someone a lot younger?  I will know the success of this transfer on June 23rd.  Thanks!

Hello....well they managed to keep my E2 down enough to do ER(yesterday at 8am)......I had 15 eggs retrieved 14 were mature and 9 fertilized.  I havent gotten any other info yet....I guess that is really all they can tell you so far.  Can they give you a grade yet...or do they have to wait 48 hrs...or so?  I am hoping for the best of course!!!!

I am 37 yo with the FSH of 11.8....which I was told would lower my chances.....My RE did put me on the DHEA and I took it for 4  months.....I dont know if this played a roll in my cycle but I feel like it may have helped in the quality of my egg.  Does your group use it?
Thank you for any insight!!!!!!!

Hello their

I am feeling devatsted at present and cannot sleep. We did our first IVF cycle. i am 32 and we have  a male factor issue. At retreival that got 9 eggs and then called to say 8 of them were immature. The doctor then said that a couple fo them were very strange shapes which he wasnt sure why but felt it was some concern. That did ICSI on the one egg that was apparently perfect and a great size and it failed.

Having always been really firm about having chidren, being a very healthy natural person and never expecting that dream couldnt come true. i am suddenly faced with the fact that it wont. With this kind of cycle suddenly our chances seem low - the doctor said he didnt think i responded well to the drugs and maybe it would be different naturally.

I am absolutely devasted and can nly think of having a sperm donor so i can do the turkey baster method which is more natural.

Have you seen anything like this and what are your thoughts its 4 in the morning and i am trying to work out how to let go of all this stuff.

many thnkas

Hi-
It is so nice to have am embryologist to ask questions about our cycles with.  I just had my first transfer on Thursday.  I am 28 almost 29 years old with unexplained infertility.  We did 4 IUI's with one resulting in a chemical pregnancy.  So we had 20 retrieved and 15 fertilized.  We transferred our 2 best which were 5AA and 3AA (5 being the best at my doctor's) on a 5 day transfer.  How does this sound to you?  Promising?  Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi there... I was wondering if you can answer something for me.  I'm currently stimming for my 4th IVF.  The tries have been back to back aside form 1 month of b/c inbetween.  Only this last try there was no month of b/c.
That said, AF showed quite late this time... by a couple of weeks.  And I had no cyst or anything like that.
However, she showed and I did my b/w and u/s and all was fine and I started stimming with 210 IU of Puregon (1st time we use Puregon) on day 2 of AF.
Today is day 10 of Puregon and I feel like AF is about to show!!
I have some cm and my lower back is quite sore and I've had a couple of other symptoms.  I can explain all the symptoms away with other things except for the cm.
Is it possible that my body is about to flush away all my precious follicles??
Or is it normal to experience cm and I just haven't previously noticed it or it doesn't happen so much with other stims??
I would really appreciate any advice / opinion.
Thanks
