PGD Testing for IVF - LvnEmbryos??

Hi there,

First, I am SO glad you are available to answer our questions. That is so gracious of you to take time to do this.

I am starting the iVF process now and was wondering if there is any genetic testing for Crohns disease and/or colitis. It may sound like a silly question but DH is concerned about us having children with this genetic autoimmune disease. I was dx'd ten years ago and have had a bumpy road with it (including a bowel resection last year). In my (very humble) opinion, I think it could be a lot worse but I understand my dh's concern (as he has seen the worst of my disease). I know that Crohns has been linked to a number of genes now, just not sure if that is included in the PGD testing. Any thoughts would be great!

Oh, and if anyone else has any thoughts, those are welcome too!!

Thanks,
Jen

I would still run it by your RE just to make sure there's nothing new that can be done that I am just not aware of...wish it was easier to just make healthy happy babies!!  GL!

Thank you SO much for your response! I figured there was no test for this and just wanted to verify - at least for DH's sake! As a proud member of the IBS club, you can definitely relate to IBD issues...good to know!

Thanks again! I'm sure I will have more questions as this journey progresses further.

I am so happy to help!  To my understanding there is no PGD that can test for this disease.  Often PGD is used to see if the embryos are chromosomally normal in general, or to look for specific diseases (like cystic fibrosis) of which the exact pattern is known.  It is worth asking your RE about to see if it is possible.  We have just never done PGD for these disorders.  So sorry to hear about your stuggles, I am a proud member of the IBS club!!  GL!!
