This will be our second try @ IVF, this time we are having the IVF/ICSI with PGD to test for Sickle Cell my last IVF resulted in a pregnancy we has to terminate @19 weeks this past May..I am very nervous...has any done PGD for Sickle Cell and if so how lond did you have to wait for embyro transfer? Last time we tranferred 2 but only 1 took is it logical to say that this time I should transfer 3 to increase my rate of twins so that I will have twins?? Or am I a being silly?

I have watched 5 people suffer their entire lives with Sickle Cell Disease and then die. I didn't want to bring a child into the world only to suffer just because I long to have a baby...it was a difficult decision to make but we believe we did what was right. My love of protecting my baby from years of torment and pain led me to my decision. I do not have the heart to selfishly watch a child suffer in pain and undergo transfusuions and surgeries that won't cure her disease just to have her life taken away. My childhood friends were always in pain and missed alot of activities and school, had very few friends. None of them lived to see pass the age of 27. Yes modern medicine may prolong lives to an age of about 40 but you will be robbed of your childhood regardless. Their is management for Sickle Cell Disease but not a cure.

There are 2 schools of thought
PGD removes embryos that won;t survive - so there is a better chance of preg
SOme say PGD weakens the embies as it removes cells - and so less chance of pregnancy
