TSH and HCG

First, I know I might be posting this in the worng place, but you ladies are very helpful.

I went to have a check-up and found out that my HCG was 88 on 3/8/07 and that my TSH was less than .01 (which is low).  I'm a Medical Technologist and know that this means if TSH is low than your thyroid is overreactive and if high than it is hypothyroid (under active).  The NP told me that the two hormones interact with one another.

Now my OB/GYN says that is okay as long as it is not "hypo" (which causes increase misscariages), but "hyper" requires treatment and not with medication (this will cross the placenta and affect baby's thryoid.  So he plans to run the other components (T3, T3 uptake and T4) and if those test come back indicating "hyperthyroidism" then surgery in the second trimester to remove the thryoid.

I apoligize for this being too long, but really curious to know if anyone else has faced these issues?

addedum: My old ob said everything was fine...that my high tSh was due to my age, Im 30, and the stress the baby was putting on my thyroid.

I also have hashimoto's and am on synthryoid 75 mg. I found this out at 8 weeks pregnant and my ob when they did TSH and it was 6.07. Needless to say, I found a new ob and got an endo, and recieved treatment. without it, I probaly would of lost the baby, or the baby would of have had developmental issues due to my high TSH. I also would remcommed getting a 2nd opinion. I would assume they would want you on some sort of meds to control your TSH because until you are 12 weeks the baby relies on your thyroid.

What ever happened with your thyroid?   I am in a similar situation.   Don't know if I am pg right now but have been trying to concieve since Sept.  Dec had first low TSH test .1, Feb .07 and Mar .01.  T3 and T4 normal.  first antibody test was neg.  Went to endo today and they want to do radioactive uptake test but have to wait to see if I am pg.  My fertility doc had advised against meds or tx until after I  conceive and deliver but now endo is urging to tx asap.

Remove your thyroid??? I thought it could be treated with medication.. I have hypo
thyroidism with Hashimotto's disease (there are antibodies that fight against my thyroid)..and I take synthroid.... I think you need another opinion before you have your thyroid removed.... wish I could help you more....good luck

medication is an option, but the medication will cross the placenta and affect the baby's thyroid.  Hyperthyroidism is suppose to cause weight loss, and I have yet to benefit from that (LOL).  They will run more test before doing anything.

Thank you so much for your response.

I noticed no one has been able to offer any assistance. I'm sorry. I know that no one is ignoring you, I don't think anyone here today knows. Unfortunately, your post will probably get pushed down so far by tomorrow that when someone is here that can help, they won't see it.
