PCOS, Worried I'll never get Pregnant!

I've always been the type of person to listen to other people's problems, but this infertility thing has made me very depressed and some support would do me wonders I think. My problem is that I have been diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago, I am only 26 years old, but we haven't had any luck getting pregnant and everyone around me seems to be popping out babies like it is going out of style, ha!!!!  I have been on 1,500 metformin daily, and we did clomid up to 150 mg (NO LUCK), so we did the infertility (hormone shots) with an Endocrinologist Infertility specialist for 2months but it was too expensive for us at the time so we had to stop...the doctor said that maybe just one more month and I should have been pregnant, but we were already $5,000 in the hole with no baby so I didn't know if I should trust him.  My GYN doctor said if I lose weight and then try back on the Clomid I should have better luck without having to go back to the EXPENSIVE infertility specialist!  Anyway, in conclusion I've been so depressed that its been hard for me to lose weight....I just need to hear from some, ANYONE!  I know everyone here has had a problem getting pregnant in one form or another, so I feel comfortable talking with you......Everyone I live around pops out babies with no problems and they are constantly teasing me and my husband that we must not know how babies are made because we are doing it wrong....I think they try to make light of the subject but its hurtful and they don't know what it is like not to be able to give the miracle of birth and experience that yourself.

THANK YOU!!!  I was so excited to discover that your doctor is close by. Well at lest in the same state. I live in a town about an hour from San Antonio. I wonder if I need my OGBYN to ask for a consult, or I can just make an appointment? When I saw the doctor in San Antonio I had to be consulted from another doctor.  Thanks again and I'll be thinking of you in my prayers, the best of luck on your pg test!!!!!!

Thank you for all your advice, and I will pray for each and everyone of you that you become pregnant or have a healthy pregnancy.  To those of you who have already successfully concieved you are my inspiration and I know I have someone to talk with that understands.  Speaking of, I just found out over the weekend that another one of my neices is pregnant and she is only 15 year old!  Dropped out of school!  Yeah, why can't someone who wants a baby and can Support a family and be AWESOME parents not get pregnant and others do so EASILY!!!!!  I try not to think about it too much because it is depressing, but I wil do what everyone told me, and if I have any luck or any more questions I will talk to you again soon!

hey i also have PCOS i was dx in nov.06 after just 2 months of being married..when my ob told me what PCOS was i came home crying and thinking that i would never have babies...i was put on met. and in jan. i underwent surgery for polyps in my uteres...after that met. it self wasent helping me ovultate so i dicthed my OB and i started seeying an RE..and i know what you mean about the expenses my insurance dosent cover any infertility treatments..but i dint care even if i went broke i needed to find out what i can do..from that point my RE put me on clomid..my dh got checked and he truned out fine...after 4 months being on clomid and one failed IUI...i was soo depressed and losing weight was the last thing on my mind...im 5'7 and i weight 300lbs so you can immagine...but my RE never mentioned anything to me about my weight...so i told my RE what can i do next..he suggested injections with HCG shot and IUI...at first i was overwelmed with all the information and what the cost was going to be...i wasent going to do but i figured this was the only way i could really find out...so we decided to do it..i went in the office for a base line blood work and u/s and they told me go home and do your first injection tonite..well that never happend...i got a call the same nite saying i shouldnt start the injections beacuse my prolactin levels were high (43) i was like what the heck is that now??? i was soo confused seemed like i had somenthing new every day..my RE started talking to me about pituatary tumor this and that...omg i freaked out i cried for weeks...he had me get an MRI and couple days later i got the news that is was negative!! soo yeahh one thing was good news finally...but i had to skip a month and i was put on meds for my prolactin levels...1 month later i went back on cd5 and my prolactin levels were low perfect as the nurse put it (8) so i started gonal-f injections....and since it was my first time on this new med. we dint know how i was going to react to it and how many pens i needed...to make a long story short i ened up getting like 3-4 pens and i spent like $1,400.00 just on that..plus ovedril and my RE had me do 2 IUIs @$245.00 just to increase my chances...well 2 weeks later  and total cycle spent $2,800.00 i got my BFP!!! im 5 weeks2days preg. rite now and i got my beta today and it was the highest 903!!YAY!! so everything is now finally looking good...i go for my first u/s right after thanxgiving...sorry my story was too long...but i just wanted to let you know that no matter what the obsticles are i never gaved up and i was optimistic and i had a great man by me my dh has been great...theres soo many things you can try before moving into IVF where it could get real expensive you just need to find the right clinic and the right RE...im soo happy with mine i would never change him..and right after i have this baby im going for my next one, i know im young (27) but with all the infertility issues that i have i think its better getting it done while your young!!
anywas again sorry if this was wayyy too long but dont give up and read as much as you can about PCOS i did you can even try the insulin restistand diet i know it works!!
if you ever have any questions feel free to ask !

I have PCOS also. Diagnosed about well, i guess it's been about 5 or 6 years ago now. But, I also have ENDO so it's complicated.  I know what you mean about the weight and the fertility drugs do no good for losing weight. It makes me eat everything in the house.  We've moved onto to IVF 4th try now so I don't remember a lot about the chlomid days and such but I truly hope things work out for you and your doc can find something that works for you. Best wishes.

I was also dx with PCOS since I was 22. I have been trying to get preg. for 6 years. I did 6 rounds of clomid with only one preg. resulting in an eptopic.  I know exactly how you feel I have been married 10 years and with no baby and every just has to ask, so i don't really socialize much...because the try and relax don't think about it just gets old sooo quick.  i finally decided to see a specialist and did IVF, I am now 7wks preg. with twins! I saw several so called infertility drs...make sure if you are going to go to a specialist to do the research, check their statistics and results.  And remember unfortunately there are no garantees
Are you ovulating on the clomid

I also have pcos.  First I would go back to the specialist and ask them about femara.  It is a drug similar to clomid but works in a different way.  Therefore it can work for you even if clomid did not.  It is also cheap - nothing like the injectibles and you take it just like clomid (days 3-7).  It does cause birth defects if you take it when you are already pregnant so just make sure your doctor does an ultrasound to verify that you are NOT pregnant when you start it.  (It is cleared by your body very fast and therefore shouldn't cause any problems with the embryo....it's actually gone by the time implantation takes place).  It's too bad your RE did not offer this before you started injectibles (but you can always go to a different doctor).  Did they do an HCG trigger with the clomid and ultrasound monitoring to measure follicle size?  You can always ask them for these too - they will help to determine when exactly you will ovulate.  Also did your dh get a semen analysis???  That is also very important.  Stay on the metformin and ask your doc about the things I mentioned here.  Don't worry too much - you are still very young and have lots of time to try different things.  I got pregnant on my first round of femara and have read about many other women who have had the same experience.  Best of luck!

Yeah, that's an ongoing epidemic with us where people make remarks about how simple it should be to get pregnant.  Especially when they say JUST RELAX and STOP TRYING SO HARD!!  It gets old very fast and people don't realize that it's not that simple.  I myself do not share my TTC wishes with my friends because they don't support me enough and don't understand so that's why this forum has been such a great help.  As far as losing weight, how about if you try walking to jump start weight loss.  I know you're tired of spending money on the treatments so at least the weight loss is free :-)  I know it's easy to say but you never know if it just might make that difference.  The more fat we have in our bodies, the more we have places where excess Estrogen can hide.  Excess Estrogen CAN interfere with ttc.  I recently started exercising in the past month and I feel a lot better and have less cramps this month.  It's hard, but I'm really trying everything I can to make it simpler.

Good luck and hang in there!
