Whats Wrong With Me

I am 28 years old and I haven't had my period in almost a year now.  Growing up I have always been real irregular, but my gyno said it was normal because I was an athlete and real active.  I haven't been to the doctor in almost a year because I have no insurance or the money to go.  Is it normal for me to still be irregular when I am not very active and is this an indication of me not going to be able to have children or hurt the chances of me having children?

This could be an indication that you could have problems...if you don't have a regular period it means you aren't ovulating each month.   This could pose future problems with regard for fertility purpose.   I know some atheletes have issues because they don't have enought body fat, so unless you have like 15% or less body fat the athlete excuse probably isn't correct.

Yes, Please, go see a doctor. It defiantly sounds like PCOS. You might have to pay a little more then you want to up front but it's something that needs to be done. If you don't have a clinic in your area you can call around to different offices and see how much they charge to be seen for PCOS. Some doctors might also let you make payments to them instead of paying it all at once. Chances are they will put you on a birth control pill and with out ins. you can get it at walmart for $9.00/mo. I think it's the generic version of ortho-tri cyclin. Are you over weight? My gyno told me one of the best treatments for PCOS is to lose weight. Even just 10% weight loss can make a big difference. He also told me that since I am trying to conceive that the weight loss will reduce the chances of developing gestational diabetes during the pregnancy. I am currently working on my weight loss program now. I wish you the best of luck.

I agree with the above poster. This sounds like PCOS and especially you being irregular most of your life. Also if you don't any insurance then you should find a state funded facility and someone there will be able to help you. If you want to have kids then having a cycle is very important and it is better that you catch this as early as possible and although 28 is still very young, with each passing moment ttc gets a little harder. Not impossible just a little more trying is involved then actual conceiving. I have PCOS and it's not the end of your fertility it just means you're going to have to work a little harder than most. Good Luck. GO SEE A DOCTOR!!
