When and how to take Chasteberry/Vitex and or black cohosh, Success???

I am still having trouble with my cycles being irregular and not ovulating 6 months post partum.  We are also currently TTC #2. Has anyone had any success with inducing ovulation or reg. their cycle by drinking chasteberry tea or black cohosh? How about supplements. Also I know they are not safe during PG so do you just stop after you think you have ovulated?

PS: I am not breast feeding. Thanks:)

I was wondering how long exactly were you taking vitex before getting pregnant? My husband and I have been trying for over 4 years and are trying everything! I realize this post was a while ago but I'm hoping you respond

I take it and it helped me a lot.see I was low on progesterone not enough for the doctor to worry about she said but she said because of that that was reason why I wasn't getting my periods and she wanted me to take some BC which I just got off and was the reason I felt was the cause of all this so out of fear and not trying to go backwards and not have us start our family I googled natural ways to boost my progesterone levels and helped me with my periods I found this. So after lots of research I bought some and started to take it and within 3 weeks of me taking it I got my period and boy it was there lol but it was a good thing since I haven't had it in 4 months. So it works. I take two pills once a day and i'm going to keep taking it till we get our positive

I have not had a period since aug 2011 and in november I decided I wanted to get pregnant and I knew I haven't been ovulating, so I purchased vitex and was told to take 3 a day for 12 weeks I started taking them December 2nd 2011 after the 1st tablet I felt like I was getting a period hot sweats, heart palpitations and cramps!! I was pleased at the thought of my periods starting again but buy Jan 1st I was loosing hope as I had no period still and had felt like one was coming for a whole month...but I took a pregnancy test and I was 2weeks pregnant..I'm now 6 month gone...I genuinely believe that without vitex an ovulation wouldn't have come so quickly as I had had no hormonal symptoms in months after coming the pill...vitex is amazing!! Well it was for me and it's worth a try

Hello, I see this is an old thread, but...  I went off the pill in June, 2011 and had the usual side effects, i.e., weight gain, hair loss, and bad acne. Those things subsided late Summer, 2011. I started taking Chasteberry the beginning of February, 2012 and nearly 2 weeks ago started experiencing Hair Loss. I currently take a total of 800mg of Chasteberry daily; I take one pill in the AM and one pill in the PM. Will the Hair Loss subside? I am concerned about this. As well, I'm hoping by taking Chasteberry, I will conceive, soon. Thanks much, LM

I have been on Vitex for a little over a month now and I just started Damiana (tea). I also take cayenne, fish oil and prenatal supplements along with a few others. My husband and I have been TTC for 5 years now :( I'm hoping the Vitex will help. So far it did help me have a REGULAR period this month. I hope it continues to work in the manner..

Vitex (chasteberry)- is very affective in regulating your cycle. Its a natural form of Provera without the chemicals and without the bill of a doc visit. You can also take a hormone balance which has black cohosh and **** Quai. You can get Hormone Complex by NSI, and Vitex by NSi at vitacost.com for a very affordable price. You do not want to take Vitex during your cycle, but continue after your period ends. You can take up to 1600mg a day of Vitex, I would start with 800 then gradually move to 1600 to see how your body takes to it.

I'm starting vitex and read conflicting stories. Some say to continue to take it throughout you period and some say to stop taking it during your period and start taking them once your period stops. What's the correct thing to do? I'm trying to regulate my period and to ovulate naturally.

I have been ttc for 3 yrs. I started using Vitex and red clover leaf tea after I was ttc for a little over a year. A few months later I did get pregnant for the first time after ttc for 18 mos, but went on to mc. Since then I had a second mc and a chemical pregnancy. After my last mc I tried Vitex in combination with Black Cohosh for 6 mos, but did not get pregnant. After trying herbs for a little over a year, I decided to stop the herbs and am trying meds with the RE. I hope the meds from the RE will help me get bfp soon and not miscarry next time. Herbs seem to help some people, but they don't work for everyone.

Has anyone on here taken Provera & Vitex?  How would this work and how do you take it?  My Dr prescribed prover for my next 3 cycles but just found out about Vitex and would like to give it a try...any suggestion or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

I’m On Provera Also. I Was Always Told By My Mom To Never Mix Herbal With Prescriptions. So I Was Thinking About Stopping Provera And Doing The Vitex Instead. The Provera Has My Emotions Weird All The Time, I’m Depressed And Moody,  And My Breast Are Soooo Sensitive. I Still Don’t Know If I’m Ovulating. I’ve Been Trying For Almost A Year Now To Get Pregnant And It Still Hasn't Happened. If I Were You I Would Do One Or The Other.

I used Vitex for 1 month after ttc for 2 years. I was pregnant next ovulation cycle without even trying. I have pcos, and had really low progesterone, and high testosterone. I used it in combination with a progesterone cream which I was using for about 2 months. I swear by this natural way. I am glad i didnt have to result to meds like clomid or metiformin!!

I have been on vitex for 13 months now and have been taking it consistently to help regulate my cycle and to aid in getting pregnant. I finally got pregnant about 6 months ago but unfortunately had a miscarriage at around 6 weeks. I bled every day for approximately 3 months straight and allowed my self to miscarry naturally and did not want to deal with the cost or trauma of the Dialation and curretage surgery to remove the remainder of the miscarriage. I did extensive research and learned that first time miscarriage is very common but I have elevated my use of the right herbs to assist in healing and regulating my cycle again. I currently take 4 capsules of cayenne, at 2 capsules with a meal,  to regulate proper blood flow, blood sugar and to keep my pressure low and healthy. I also take 1 vitex capsule twice a day to help with regulating prolactin and progesterone levels. I take 1 kelp pill twice a day to regulate my thyroid. I have been on the kelp for about 3 months now, the cayenne for 5 months now, and the vitex as I mentioned for about a year. I also take Dr.John R Christophers, a very well known alternative doctor, Female Reproductive Formula at 2 capsules twice a day including 1 Costco brand B-50 B complex. Along with these I take 1 fish oil capsule twice a day with a meal. I might seem like a lot, but it isn't. I drink Pregnancy tea by Traditional Medicinals at 1-3 cups a day or more and at least 2 cups of green tea too. I would like to recommend books by Dr.Gary Null, Dr.John R Christopher, Dr.Julian Whitaker, Dr.David G.Williams, Dr.Mark Stengler and Dr. Ralph Moss to just name a few well known alternative health doctors. These are legitmiate licensed doctors because I am staring at their books in my library as I write this posting. I can only recommend that you go to amazon.com and type in any of the names above and get some of the encyclopedia type of books. Read, Research and Read some more is all I can recommend. And I know this much about these supplements. I can take all of them during pregnancy with exception of Vitex which should be stopped at approximately 6 months of pregnancy. At your third trimester you should stop because if may adjust prolactin levels and just might reduce milk production. I just took blood work 2 weeks ago, and I have normal thyroid, normal blood sugar, low blood pressure and normal prolactin and progesterone levels. I weigh 240 pounds and am 5'5 inches. I am obviously very overweight and I do exercise about 15 minutes a day by just walking. This alone is proof that the supplements have had NO negative effect on me considering how severely out of wack I was 2 years ago while playing the doctor yo yo game with no answers. I was having late menstrual cycles by 2 weeks late here and 3 weeks late there or bleeding an extra week or so on. I suffered for a year searching for answers of which my obgyn had no help. All she offered was to put me on birth control pills to regulate my cycle and was told that I am  overweight and under stress (yeah who isn't nowadays huh?) and that is why my periods are irregular. I refused the birth control pills and said that my husband and I are trying to conceive, that was when I was 31, as I am now 33. I read and researched and I found vitex and started taking it. Within 2 months my periods had regulated and I was on a 31 day cycle like I used to be when I was younger. I finally got pregnant and miscarried and now have slowly began regulating back to normal. It is always possible that I may never get 31 day cycles again because a miscarriage has the potential of doing that. However I have stopped bleeding everday incessantly like I was doing after the miscarriage. These herbs do work, you have to take them religiously. Yyou have to do your own research and learn more about your own personal needs. The Food and Drug Administration only cares about what ever pharmaceutical company lines their pocket book, remember, phen phen, vioxx and others that were dangerous to humans even after being animal tested and approved. None of these supplements have FDA approval, but I would trust them over the synthetic drugs anyday. Google any of the herbs and doctors above as keywords, you will be surprised by what you find. The information is mindboggling. I am not talking about infections and antibiotics , I am talking about chronic conditions.  I am just saying beware and take care. Always get second and third opinions. Read- Read -Read. Be as informed as possible. I am my own experient and I know it is working for me. I take no prescription or over the counter drugs whatsoever. I don't trust them, they have only hurt me and my relatives in the past with side effects, high costs and difficulties. Nothing in life is 100 percent perfect and easy, I get that, but prescription drugs in my opinion, do more harm than good. Alternatives are out there. How have humans survived for millenia? We didn't have Glaxo Smith Kline, Merck, Johson and Johnson, and the boatloads of other pharmaceutical corporations out there. How did we ever survive without these toxic so called wonder drugs? One wonders.....Good luck and best wishes. Gina Lola Nolin.

All I know is you can't take chasteberry if you are on clomid - they somehow cancel each other out

I don't have much to add but I'm just waiting on a response from someone else to know the answer to this too.  I just bought chasteberry in the tea form.  I drank it only one day in the week before ovulation and stopped because I didn't know if that's when I should be drinking it.  I didn't want to interfere with ovulation since I didn't know.

Oh well, I hope someone who knows responds soon.
