any sucess with back to back iui's for ladies age 38-40 yrs old

i know that this question has been posted once before a while back... i just turned 40 yrs old and have tried 3 single iuis and when i go back in aug or early sept i will be doing the double iui, i was just wondering if there are any sucessful stories of any ladies that have tried the single iui with no sucess and then tried the back to back iui's and then have gotten preg.

Hello. Not to be a stick in the mud, but if you are serious about getting pregnant you need to be combining injectable drugs with your IUI's, and it wouldn't hurt to throw in acupuncture too. If a few cycles of stimulation drugs and IUI's don't work then move on to IVF right away. Doing IUI's without injectable stimulation (forget Clomid, it is for 30 year olds) is a waste of your valuable time and money. You still have a chance of success at 40, but every year after that it gets harder and harder if not impossible. If you haven't had your hubby/BF checked out then he should get a semen analysis too. Just telling it like it is. Good luck and baby dust to you!

PS We have had a single IUI that did not work, and then last month I did not even ovulate with the clomid. The RE said that this is due to stress when he it happens. UGH!! I have purchased meditation CDs in hopes of reducing stress for this month. He did change the meds and is using clomid with menopur this time. I am feeling bloated, so I am hopeful that it worked this month -- I did not have the achy, bloated feeling last month.

I am new at this, so I am not certain how to add you to my friends. Feel free to add me. I just saw your post on the other discussion. I am SOOOOO excited for you!!!! Oh, if only we can manage, too!!

Yes, I understand the age issue. They keep telling us the same thing. I feel like weeping when he says,"Due to your advanced age..." ! If we had known my husband was viable at all after his cancer and chemo treatments eighteen years ago, we would not be advanced age and trying to have one ourselves.

I will have to tell my husband about your positive test. I think he will be excited, too! :)

We go to the doctor tomorrow morning to see if follicles formed this month. I think they did because I feel a bit uncomfortable and bloated already. I will let you know what happens.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

i am not sure if you misunderstood what i was writting but the only positive thing with the single iui's is the number of follicles... but i never had a positive test that is why we are going to try the double iui's on my next cycle at the end of this month... sorry if i confused you... but i will keep you updated and i myself have been threw kemo 2 x, but i was told it was not a factor for not being preg... i wish you the best with the drs tomorrow. and keep me updated... christina

UGH!! I am sooo sorry that I misunderstood. Thanks.Yes, I will let you know tomorrow what the doctor says.

My husband's chemo was for testicular cancer. We were told at the time that he was no longer viable, but apparently that changed. His counts are very low, but they have him on meds to help increase it.

I hope that we both have luck this next treatment! :)

I just figured out my misunderstanding. Someone by the nickname candybar is going through IUIs as well. She had a positive pregnancy test last night. In my quick glance this morning, I thought it was you. I am sorry!

I am just going to have hope that we will be in the same situation soon!

Hey there. I don't often check these threads, but I wanted to tell you that a friend of mine did back to back IUI's with drug stimming and on her 3rd month she conceived twins, a boy and girl. They are healthy, normal babies now about 1.5 years old. My RE was stunned by this story since he didn't have much faith in a 43 yr old getting pregnant at all! So, you just never know. I hope it works for you. Keep us updated. :)

ok well, i did my first session of the back to back iui and today i recieved the 2nd and in the past with the 3 single iui's i always had very very bad cramping during the insemination and then about an hour to two hours after i got home i had the worst cramping ever but with these 2 iui's i had no cramping during and/or after, i was told that the cramping actually pushes the sperm away from the eggs because it is because it is disturbing the cervix and it is just a reaction... she told me that due to not having no cramping during or after this my be a really good sign that "MAYBE" something took with her experience with other women... but i am now starting the 2ww and i go for the blood work on the 19th. i am going to TRY not to take any preg test along the way.... i am not getting my hopes up or down, i will just go about my daily routine... tiadreams i apprieciate the experience of your friend, i am so happy for her and if i could be so lucky with twins.. i would just love that 2 girls, 2 boys or one of each as long as the baby or babies are healthy i would be sooo soooo happy... i will keep everyone updated... good luck with everyone and pending families...

Hey there, just stay positive and don't sweat the small stuff. My new RE keeps reminding me not to focus on the details but to just keep visualizing the bigger picture. You could also try some fertility meditative music. My acupuncturist gave me a cd and I have been trying to do a little every other day. Also, has anyone mentioned pinneapple? It is supposed to ba a natural anti-inflammatory, especially the core. It is recommended to gorge on it the day of transfer so with an IUI you could start gorging 5 days later. Thankfully it tastes good! A lot of ladies on here are coming up pregnant naturally lately so hopefully your time is now! I know lots of women who have gotten pregnant in their early 40's without even really trying, so I am rooting for you! Baby dust!

ty i have talked to my dr about all the suggestions that u have mentioned and the response was try it, it isnt going to hurt. before i started this journey of having a baby i did alot of researching and then i brought it all to my drs attention. all my testing have come up with some things and have been corrected with different procedure. the ending result is after all the procedures and additional testing there is no reason now of why i am not able to get preg naturally. but with this women dr i have seen yesterday and today has given me some hope and shared her experiences with other women but i agree and i have taught myself to not stress over this whole thing during the 2ww as i did in the past (last year) . so i will see what happends with my blood work my bf has things planned for us to keep me busy so i dont focus on the waiting game.... i thank you very much for the advice and words of encouragement... i wish u the best in your journey also....

just an update to keep me from getting that preg test:  well i was done with the back to back on wed 9/5/12 and i have had bloating, some heaviness by my ovaries area more on the left side, my appitite has increased, sore breast, i put on 5 pounds but i think it is because of all the bloating..i know that there is a possible chance that this could be the meds working on my body.. in the past i only had the bloating and the body does react differently at times. so i am not getting my hopes up or down. i have not gotten a preg test and my bf had asked if i wanted to have one on stand by and i told him no, i want to wait the 2 weeks and get the blood work. he is more impatient than i am this time around, lol.

well here is my update: no luck, it is very upsetting and disappointing once again.... i wonder if i am just kidding myself that i will ever be a mom... i new i was going to get a negative with the blood work i took this morning but when the nurse call a few min to confirm, it was like reality hit hard and to tell me the dr wants yet but another follow up. i know i am going to hear the same thing like i have everytime, my age, ivf would be the best thing at this time in your life because you are 40.... i am not sure i want to hear the same thing over and over it is very tornting... my bf doesnt really like him and just goes with me for the support and it is what we both want.... i am not sure if i should continue with this dr or move to the next... i did 3 single iui's and i just did a double (back to back) plus we have tried on our own and bf stopped drinking , smoking and nothing... ... and not even a tease of a positive... i am very frustrated and upset.... i feel like it is a waste of time .i need advice, or just words of encouragement...

Hey, Sorry about your BFN. This is truly a tough journey. Any chance you have insurance that will cover IVF? The main thing with IVF is that it gives you more information and of course increases your chances by leaps and bounds. You still have to have one good egg in the bunch that month of stimulation if you are to succeed, but if you do get that one good egg then you are on your way. I have heard of other women that took Clomid at your age and succeeded, but I will tell you that it makes you crazy! I took it for 4 months and I would not recommend taking more than 3 months in a row. It ups your odds a little more if you combine it with IUI's. Think of it this way...if you normally drop one egg, with Clomid you should drop two, so twice the chance even if the chance is low. If you've already been taking it then I'm sorry I mentioned it. I can't remember...have you done injectable drugs with your IUI's yet? I wish you the best.

yes i tried the clomid and had no luck, and yes i am on gonal-f, they boosted me up to 450 and then dropped me to 225 to try not to over stimulate the ovaries and i had 14 on one side and 18 on the other... i do the trigger and estrace, and i was on crinone and then he switched me to endomentrin.. i have use the folic acid, and a bunch of other suppliments that i got the ok to use... i am just so tired of being disappointed and i wish my insurance covered the ivf but they dont. i even went to my employer and asked if they can look into adding that service and they wont, i found out today that they are going to change insurance companies and once again i went to go and ask them again and i was told it is very costly and if they add it they have to add it to the whole group and no one wants to pay the high cost...so i am just stuck...yesterday i told the nurse that i didnt understand why he wants a follow-up appointment because he tells me the same thing everytime, that the ivf would be the best and my age and i feel like he is discouraging me. today the nurse called me to see how i was and she advised that she spoke to the dr about why he wants to do a follow up appointment after every iui, and she told him how i felt about hearing the same thing and if there isnt anything xtra to add or do then i didnt see any reason in having a followup everytime and walking out of there upset and stressed and discouraged... so she told me to keep my appointment on fri (tomorrow) without the follow-up .... and start another round.... very very upset....

Hey, No wonder you are frustrated, you have many follies! Do you know how many eggs you are actually dropping each month? You are a rock star to have that many follies girl! I know this isn't making you feel great since it still isn't working but that is a crapload of follies. I know how frustrating it is that almost no inurance co's cover IVF, aargh! Not to sound like your dr but if you could in any way finance it I would, it sounds like you stand a good chance of succeeding. (Trust me I am the last person to say this because my IVF cycle was as bad as they come and I was at one of the top clinics in the country so I know they didn't do anything wrong.) Any chance your hubby's sperm is slow on the uptake? The thing about us older gals is that our eggs have a tougher shell so the sperm may have a harder time breaking in. In any case, if you are not loving your dr I would find another. And, I would check out their stats on sart.org because if you get to the point of doing IVF you want to be with the best since, frankly they all charge about the same. You know about ICSI right? That overcomes the hard shell in IVF. Anyway, I'm sorry, I don't want to sound like your irritating dr, but I would love to see you succeed, especially with that many follies on board. OK, well don't give up. Everything works out in the end and if it hasn't worked itself out, then it isn't the end. Hugs. Alexia

thank you so much for the hopeful words... i am trying but it is so disappointing, the dr didnt say whether his sperm was slow but the quanity was low and then he was told to stop smoking; in which he did and drinking stopped so the dr said that there will be improvement... so with that being said, the show must go on and keep moving forward... are you talking about regualr pineapple the fruit..i love the stuff... i can eat it everyday... thank you again for the encouragement and best wishes and i sent the same to you also.... lots of baby dust
thank you
