PCOS and treatment...and conceiving

Well, since Monday's diangosis of PCOS I decided that I don't want to take the YAZ that my doc gave me for hormone balancing. I"m finding that there are so many other treatments that are the same or better in effectiveness and I really don't want to screw up my future fertility or delay it rather, by taking a birth control pill. When I'm ready to start ttc I want to know that its possible THEN and not have to wait a year for the **** to get out of my system. So yesterday I started my P cream on CD 13 because I was told by gyno and lab that this would be the right day for me to start. I'm confused on one thing though: I read that if you discover you're preggo you should NOT stop taking P cream until you see a doctor b/c abrupt cessation can cause m/c.
My confusion lies in the fact that for regular hormone balancing i'm supposed to stop P cream on day 26 of cycle and that would mean that I would be about 15 days from O....but many women dont get BFP until past 15 dpo, so how would i know i was pregnant in time to avoid stopping the p cream? Does that make sense?

Hello!  yea i know! who ever thought that it would be such a confusing frustrating process!!! I was always anal about taking my pill same time everyday to prevent an unplanned pregnancy! little did I know the battle we had ahead of us!   Yea 14dpiui is the same as 14 dpo.. with me I know for sure that ovuation happened or did not happen the day after the IUI since my RE does an post-O ultrasound to make sure the follicles collapsed and released the egg(which mine don't 2/3rds of the time! ugh)     so yea 14 days after confirmed O you should have a positive pregnancy test, but i agree i always wander if maybe i should continue taking them a little longer just in case!   theres always the exception that doesn't get the BFP until after 14dpo of course!   with some people their periods come while taking progesterone.. even though i naturally have low progesterone AF stays away until 3 days after stopping the progesterone each time.. so it just depends how your body reacts to it!       I have heard the answer brand HPT's are ok, but never heard much about the OPKs.,.... i think i used clear blue or someting like that.. but only 7 came to the box, it took me two boxes the first cycle to figure out with O happens, which can get expensive! GOOD LUCK!   keep me updated! :  )

bny807- Thanks for your response!
Is 14 days after IUI the same as 14 days past O? (sorry-don't know much about it...)
So do you know if i were to continue taking progesterone until i knew i wasn't pregnant, would that delay my AF or would i still get it? It seems crazy to think that i could stop progesterone cream and end up causing myself a miscarriage, all b/c i had no idea i was pregnant. DH and i aren't ttc but we aren't stopping it (he pulls out) so i'm thinking that if p cream regulates my hormone imbalance, pregnancy is possible. Thus, i don't want to destroy a succesful implantation if it occurs simply by stopping progesterone cream on day 26 like i'm told to...

ahhhh, its all so confusing!!

Hello! well especially with PCOS it can be hard to know for sure when O actually happens! so I would use OPKS (unless they are always positive with you which is common in pcos) and then temp and see if you can nail down the day of O, then typically 14 days past that should have an accurate FMU hpt.. but I know i have lots of friends who dont' get their BFP's till almost a week after AF is due.. i stop my progesterone 14 days after IUI.. but we confirm ovulation with an ultrasound so we know that it did in fact happen and know when too... but this being my last IUI i'll probably keep taking it even with a BFN on day 14 just to make extra extra sure! good luck!!! i hope that helped!
