really confused

Hi...I am a first time mom of a 2 year old daughter.  My husband and I are wanting to try for a second child, but things just dont seem to be happening.  I tried using an ovulation test for the first time this last month, and got a positive result- however I just started my period, and based on counting back 14 days, i would have had to ovulate prior to the positive response I recieved on the test.  Am i doing something wrong?  or do you get more than one surge a month?  Im just really confused and starting to get concerned that getting pregnant isnt in the cards...

Just like you do not always ovulate on day 14 as the other ladies said, the time between ovulation and AF is not always 14 days, either. It should be at least 10-12 days between ovulation and AF, and if it is less than that it could indicate LPD, luteal phase defect. LPD can make it harder to get pg or hold on to a pg, so is something to talk to your doc about if you notice that time between ov and AF is short. Good luck to you!

I agree with BabyAl... this month, use the OPKs starting at CD10-20... you will notice the lines getting darker and darker. When they are EQUAL in darkness to the control line, you should (its not guaranteed) ovulate within 24-48 hours. Are you also charting your temp? That confirms if you've actually O'ed, not just had the LH surge.

You'll probably take a few months of trying with good timing to catch the egg!!! Hardly any woman I know actually ovulates on day 14. It's a myth! And every month is different.

Good luck to you and SSBD!!!

Hi faithawke, everyone ovulates differently and it's not always at the "14 day" mark.  If you got a positive LH surge result from the kit then it should have been right.  Some months are just unlucky months.  You could try using the predictor kits and when you think it's getting close to your LH surge (can usually tell from the darkness of the lines), start the babymaking, so maybe do babymaking a few nights before LH surge and during, cover all angles.

Hang in there!  Best of luck.
